MREs aren't really even necessary in the game in my opinion. They are a luxury. I keep a few in my truck for those times I might have forgotten to pack enough food, and don't feel like scavenging around. I think I have ~25 of them in storage now, and have only ever eaten one.

Do this and you will understand that it is much work to build up a foodstock and eat healthy.
I guess i invested more than 5 hours the last 3 days only on this topic
For me the current droprate of mre is fine (2 in 9 days). But i have a Crate full of Meat, 12 Pieces allready cooked. But i try to eat them warm
I primarily find them in the barracks buildings and mess halls in high loot areas, as well as in the large industrial kitchen areas
Yet, it's only one meal so why bother?
You could get far more nutrition in the wild than chomping on MREs.
(Far easier too!)

And barracks buildings etc, probably all mentioned above.
