Artemis, how to counter its early ?
Hi, i am not quite new to the game and i always wondered what i could do vs early Artemis.

Since im Substrate player i cant answer with my own artillery, since substrate artillery does not that damage against other units, including Artemis.

My problem with Artemisare:
She has long rang (Due she is a Artillery, thats expected duh)
She can target Enemy units, not only buildings with almost same amount of dmg output
She is extremely fast. (Main point)

Especially the last point is my Problem. If i encounter an Artemis bombardement i cannot just charge at her, because she is faster at falling back then any corvette killers (which makes no sense to me). Additionally she can fire while falling back, killing off any attempt to chase her down.

Sure in later game i can send some skirmishers after her (DLC unit !) or very early aircraft, but it doesnt feel fair i NEED aircraft to catch her.

All in all i always feel substrate is underpowered in early game mainly because Artemisjust reks havoc upon me and i don't see an efficient countermeasure.

I can win vs painful AI, but only if i have luck and AI doesnt throw Artemis at me early, else im always screwed. AI Substrate Destructor has both less DPS and cannot target Units with its main Weapon, so its never a problem to just chase it away.

How do you deal with them ?

Basically... only Air is the counter. Haha.
If the enemy has only a little bit AA or fires from its own defenses reach, there is no countermeasure.

tormentors are artiliry frigates they are cost effective vs artemis also yes air is an option but if there is enough then its not going to die

Do we talk about a different game ? I dont have tormentors to build.
Artillery frigates sound nice though.


Edit, found out its a DLC unit i dont have. So an effective counter is only present if you have DLC. awkward the tactical gaps can only be closed with dlcs.

And i tried Air vs Artillery. As i have foreseen, artemis fires from enemy defenses or has heavy anti air support almost always of any kind so even 5-6 early aircraft are just vaporized before i even can kill 1 artemis.
Additionally that the Aircrafts are so expensive it puts me behind even more when i try this approach.

Looks like i have to accept there is nothing to do except to quit game when artemis rush is coming since its lost cause anyway.

Artemis are broken and should be fixed in next patch.

Until then you can try some of the counters mentioned above.
I have been told that nemesis work too if you keep something in between them so that they don't get focused. Heras are good too because they have high hp. For substrate you could try eradicators or skirmishers.
Tormentors and skirmishers are a part of 2 different DLCs so if you don't have the DLCs you won't be able to use them in singleplayer or campaign, they still work in multiplayer, 1v1 and customs.

I am substrate player. There is no Nemesis/Hera for me.
Eradica and Skirmishers need far more tech (they have higher building prerequisites), which is not possible to aquire before minute 6-10 without crippling my eco.

I found tormentors very ineffective vs artemis too, i need at least 10 to beat an Artemis and micro them good at the same time so they arent hit by Artemis AOE.

After all, still no early counterplay for Artemis found. All a PHC player needs to do is rush artemis and start bombarding substrate. Early in game substrate has no meaningful countermeasures which confirms again here. For the record, i bought the DLC to test if tormentor is efficient vs Artemis, which i found it isn't.

If im a bit rude, plz forgive. i am mad rn because i hate the AA / Aircraft balance. 8 AA frigates were destroyed by a single T1 Aircraft. Whats the point of AA when if cant even win a fight vs AA where it outnumbers it AND it is supposed to counter it.

The game is terrible right now. The artemis isn't even a counter for the AI artemis because each one moves independently avoiding your artillery fire while deadly accurate against yours.
I guess there is some DLC counter....but then soon you will need to buy another DLC to fix the uncounterable unit they put in there.
I shouldn't say 'terrible'. The only counter I have found is to rush build a Cronus, if you have a map that allows that much time.

actually i can show you how to change stuff
so if you right click the game
hit browser local files
search for steeringmodules
using excel search for
OmniTargetArtemis
go to column 23 and change it from 1200 to 0
that will remove the kiting feature
make sure to save this as a csv file any other file format will break this
if you cannot save the file as a csv you can download csved (its free)
