All units have blurry textures.
All units have really low resolution textures for some reason, despite the fact my graphics settings are set to 'high'.

Also for some weird reason, when I zoom in on units, they sometimes switch to high resolution texture for a split second, but then go blurry again.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

We discussed this situation. We believe it is tied to the same driver issues with SCO. You can help by letting nVidia know about it to see if they can update things. We won't be able to spare engineer time until we do the Star Control console port so I can't promise anything before then on our end.

Has this issue been resolved?

As far as im aware, no. Though i havent played the game in a long time, i still hear about people having this problem

I have this flashing between blurry and good texture issue right now in benchmark mode on i5-3570K and 8GB of ram, and an AMD RX570 8GB. Game is on old 750GB hard drive.
This has been going on for quite a while.
I first noticed with the BETA months ago, but then they moved that code into the main release so you can't even avoid the issue now.
I've tried LOWEST settings too. It uses to work fine, and it did so for YEARS so I have no idea why they would force a release update with an issue that certainly must affect a lot of people.

Yeah i have been waiting for a fix to play. Its a real bloody shame the left arm cant talk to the left hand eh? Oh well back to hoping it gets fixed to play the new version. :(

I saw no mention of it in the patch notes and it has been a thing for literal years.

I suspect it isn't something the devs consider important.

The problem is still there. Tested the game using all 3 render modes, tried changing a few nvidia settings in control panel, also tried adjusting the shaders in game. All still had the issue, its quite obvious when watching the benchmark scene particularly on the dreadnaughts the texture flickers from high to low quality. :(

AMD-> Oxide works with AMD support to improve CPU threading and GPU ASync etc so AMD can use AotS benchmarks to show off CPU and GPU hardware

NVIDIA-> ? read this comment section. A game dev from Oxide asks the community if THEY can talk to NVidia. Apparently Oxide can't?

(Hate to sound like a conspiracy nut, but something doesn't add up here. Or is the game abandoned for EVERYBODY? And if so, then why even push the broken beta code in the first place?)

So i recently changed from running a NVIDIA 3090 to a AMD RADEON 6900xt and i can confirm with 100% certainty that the texture issue is still happening. It feels like a LOD setting problem, sometimes the units have the correct texture loaded and sometimes they dont. I could take photos or video of my current system where running in 4k the difference is really quite obvious. Now it shows differently between the two platforms. With NVIDIA it appears to almost flicker between the two texture LODS where on my current RADEON rig it doesnt appear to change when the object is on the scene it changes between scenes. You can very clearly see some of the dreadnaughts have low quality textures, then later on in the benchmark they have higher resolution or vice versa.

Sounds like Oxide gave up on this game?
I find this confusing... the LOD texture issue started in Beta. The game was working fine for YEARS. The issue was identified in BETA. Then Oxide pushed the broken beta code to be the main release.
So why push it if it's broken? Where's the logic?

If it was a rare issue I could understand that but it seems to be fairly widespread. It ruined the game for me, and the Oxide response to "contact NVidia" on their behalf is very odd. Though it sounds like AMD GPU's have a similar issue so... it makes even less sense to me now.

Its an issue with the Shaders, you can totally change your shaders from ultra to high to have it more apparent. Its a shame i really wanted to spend a fair amount of time on this game and this issue puts me right off.

I found no setting that gets rid of the issue however. I tried HIGHEST and I tried LOWEST settings.
It's obvious to me that this game is abandoned. Shame. What pisses me off the most isn't that it's broken NOW it's that it WORKED fine before.

So after reading the 3.1 patch notes the third or forth option down said
Adjusted rendering priorities so that larger units look substantially better when there are fewer units on screen
is where this broke. I do think the bug lies somewhere in that change.

But yeah i dont think they are prioritizing the issue too much which is a shame. I bought this game on release or very close and have been enjoying it on and off since then. I really wanted to give the balance changes a good going over now i have my new setup and i can turn on all the bells and whistles in 4k and have a playable framerate.

Shame. Ah well such is life i suppose. Do you know if rolling back to the version 2.something in the beta branch will reset the changes and make it so it doesnt ♥♥♥♥ with the shaders?

rolling back should fix texture issues as that version shouldnt of been touched

Thanks Drivver44 I read the whole thread when i had my nvidia card but didnt re-read it again.

Please don't edit comments to the point you're quoting people incorrectly. You have me saying things that I never said... the "Do you know if rolling back..." was never said by me. Be more careful.
