Cant undestand, how to control units.
Hello. I played a lof of RTS games, for example: starcraft bw(hi B rank terran), starcraft 2(terran mid master leage), total annihilation. There are games old and not interesting for me.
But those games are having one "+". It is calling unit control.

Most old-middle RTS games.

Commands expectation:
Attack move - units move until meet enemy in attack range and then stop for attack.
Hold - units never move and only attack in attack range.
Mouse control - player must select units with MouseL and then click MouseR for move.

Asher of the singularity.
Commands reality:

Attack move - units move maximum CLOSE(lol what?) to enemy, for example:"Archer". Guys, its not attack move. Its calling simple move. Its not good, when units dont use attack range or arty is trying to join to enemy forces. Btw, arty usually try hold position, but not enough good, they are moving a little to enemy units or tower(and getting dmg) and attacking. Noone unit use his real attack range. But arty is trying, a lot of trying. But its real, 'Attack Move' never work, its seems more like move.

Hold(Stop) - this buttom is missing. We have only buttom 'stop'. You cant hold positions. Defence for girls. I can tell you more, if units see enemy forces, u cant 'Stop' them. Most useless buttom in the game.

Mouse control - player must select units with MouseL and then click MouseR for move. Ok its work, but not enough right. When you are starting click fast MouseR, camera is start moving, becouse game think, that you are trying to get speed for camera move.
If u have 200+ apm, just forget about it. Game cant give you using your speed potencial. You can click MouseRight only slow or with normal speed, not spam. Its lol, nothing say. So, u almost cant get micro in the game. Only full macro, but slow macro with 100-150 apm.

you really didnt notice you can set the right mouse button not to move camera ??? It's the first thing i did .

the games really more about setting up army groups, then giving general commands & letting the armys deal with the situation. It can be anoying if your dealing in small number of units & wish to micro manage.

The control issues are just a flaw. they've been 'working' on allowing keys to be rebound for 2 years. so not going to be fixed.

try factorio or creeper world 3

Games are not about army groups, micro and control. Ok. So, how about delete A-Move, Stop, etc usless buttons. It will casual game.
Btw, tell this story about different games control to supreme commander.
If you will delete micro, u make card game and get people D, haha.

I played creeper world, i have this game. Not enough interesting. Ai war is better.
Factorio is other genre.

You are guys not right anyway. I found micro. Realization is hard, very hard, but its work.
I tryed undestand unit logic about 5 hours with AI.

You can:
1) Control drones of Drone hive like carriers in starcraft bw. Attack-back-attack. Its giving you epic big radius of attack.
2) Control T2+ units if A-move command will far away from anyway but in range attack.
3) You can move back and attack, not all, not always, but can. For example: Hera/Eradicator for killing all ground enemy units with 0 chance for enemy.
4) Splite t1 units for kill Zeus with minimum problems.
5) etc.

But its very hard. They can delete micro, if its other genre game.
Btw, armyes are usless. Its not working right. I dont see no one situational when army can be more effective, then your micro. This game is still need a lot of APM for all actions.

Army get bonuses from the dreadnought unit. at least in the single player.

Ashes isn't about precise micro, it's practically impossible to get units to move the way you want them to. But they move in the right approximate direction, give or take some random hovering around.

The big mindset change is to focus on the macro + point capture/holding + economy & tech to get bigger numbers and better guns in a fight, and less on smart movement/kiting.

Units have a preferred range, so when you click attack they will try and "float" to that range. That's why long-ranged units may back up when you order them to attack a building.

In early game not many people use army. But in mid-late game army can be useful to make units engage all together. That's about it.

Macro is very ez in this game. You dont need big mind for make harvesters, apli and control points. Player with micro will always win battle against macro player.
No micro, no skill.

Effective of preferred range<real attack range.
If i attack building with my long range arty. She is just trying kiss this building and then go back a little. Its autolose arty units.
Eradicator and arty can move back and attack, if you will A-click behide them and max attack range is ok. Its calling kite or something baby and it is effective.

"mid-late game army can be useful to make units engage all together". Just make bind for every units. T1, drone hive - 1, Eradicators+AA - 2, Arty - 3, Air - 4 etc.
You can try make army only if you cant control on 3 fronts. But it is still not enough effective and every control every unit, especially t2+. This game is giving you micro, but very hard to use it.

From my experience kiting is effective in StarCraft and C&C types (Look at how Has juggles Immortals with his Warp Prism!).

In Ashes there's nowhere near enough precision. Things just kind of float there or take ages to turn in circles if you try to control them too much. If you let them do their thing they're surprisingly more effective.

That's not micro! Micro would be taking the most damaged Eradicator and shuffling it to the back while closing the gap with the next two, except doing that would just make it turn slowly to crash into the Eradicator behind it while wiggling its butt.

Or fanning those Drone Hives out so they're all simultaneously at max range except if you do then the Drone Hives that don't have your attention will stupidly walk forward and get itself killed
