Gday
What engine do you guys use ? Custom ? UE4? Cryengine/Amzons Fork Cryengine ? Unity
Any LEGIT reason to lock people into DirectX11
instead of supporting OpenGL ?
Any legit reason not to support OpenAL or Steam Audio + SDL2
over dotnet ?
Sure Wine exists but it is mostly for DX9c and shouldnt be a valid reason NOT to support Linux platform espically when all studios have to do is support
OpenGL instead of DX11
Vulkan instead of DX12
OpenAL/steamaudio + SDL2 instead of dotnet
Or is microsoft backing companies not to move away from DX11 ecosystem ?
I would really love to know why so many studios and programmers lock people into the DX/Windows eco system ?
UE4 can support OpenGL + OpenAL + SDL2 + Linux Native + VULKAN
Unity can support OpenGL + OpenAL + SDL2 + Linux Native + VULKAN
openGL supports Win7/8/10/Mac/Linux
Vulkan supports Win7/8/10/Linux
If you look at other early access games made with unity and UE4 some supported Linux , eg Descent Underground uses UE4 and supports LINUX native platform
In fact recently one guy mentioned he will offer his help for free for upcoming games to help release them on Linux platform (This was mentioned on gaming on linux website)
Mostly I believe it's just apathy. A good amount of it will also be wanting to stick to what's known, and some of it will be deliberate fanboyism, but mostly just not caring.
How'd you figure that? This thread's been ticking along steadily since it was created.
+10 to necro
at least they keep 1 thread alive instead of spamming new ones continuously :P
all hail the mighty necro Overlord "Ainz Ooal Gown"
+100 to necro
on a more serious note, people here state some good points and requesting a linux version is a fair request still.
What is your point with saying that exactly? Should we create a new topic, discussing the exact same thing instead of posting to this one? Doesn't make any sense.

People, stop expecting games on Linux. SteamOS was your only hope for a big Linux market and that died. Game on Windows or be left behind, simple as that
And what is YOUR point in writing this?
You don't realize that most Linux users are already aware of the situation and use Windows on a separate partition?
Also, it's very short-sighted to say that SteamOS died and was the only hope. You clearly don't see the bigger picture and the progress on the long run, which is what Valve has always been doing, and they're succeeding at it, contrary to what you claim.
Nobody gets "left behind" here, only these devs. Because they won't get any of my money.
I'm not interested in buying a game that only runs on Windows anymore. If there's not a native GNU/Linux build, I'll just spend my money on a game that does support Linux.
What a load of bollocks.
BETA was the best. ;)
You are right but VHS won ;)
