SOME HELPFUL TIPS FOR NEW PLAYERS!
*** MOST IMPORTANT TIP ***

Watch this 7 minute Beginner's Guide video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5U03hTMAmtI
It's 5 months old, and there have been some changes to the game since, but overall it's a GREAT way to learn the basics of the game.

Props to ConnMovieMakers for this fine starter guide for new players.

When you first spawn in

1- Press ENTER to chat, then press TAB to switch to TEAM chat. If you don't, you will be typing in ALL chat and the enemy team will see everything you say, gaining valuable intel.

2- Press T to use voice chat if you have a headset with microphone. Only the players near you will hear you, NOT the entire team on the server.

3- If you want to be a FIGHTER, you should take a basic weapon from your team's Town Hall (the building you will spawn next to). Press E to access the town hall, and select your weapon of choice- usually a basic rifle -and then 2-3 clips of ammo, and a grenade or two.

a) DO NOT take 10 clips and a bunch of grenades; when (not if, but when) you die, you drop everything on you to the ground, and the enemy will salvage all your ammo and use it against your team!!

b) Everything you see in Foxhole- weapons, vehicles, ammo, explosives, medical supplies, static defenses -is built by your team's players. It takes a lot of effort, and a lot of time. Don't be a hog and waste all their hard work.

Now that you're armed, press M to open the map; look for a base with your team's color that is near a base with the enemy's team colors; that's probably where you should be heading to fight. If in doubt, ask in chat.

4- If you want to be a BUILDER/GATHERER, things are a bit more complicated. I suggest watching this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqTYX9GPuyM

Props to I Saw a Bear for producing it!

5- If you want to be a COMBAT MEDIC....gawd bless ya'! I suggest watching this video (it's pretty funny too!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-yRY1HAJsc

Props to Stalltt for producing it!

Miscellaneous Tips

1- It's mentioned in the videos, but DO NOT RUN/WALK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD! Foxhole has friendly fire, and trucks can kill you just by grazing your shin at 5 mph. Stay out of their way!!

2- Speaking of trucks; DON'T STEAL TRUCKS!! Although there's no such thing as "mine" in a war, generally speaking trucks are meant for 2 reasons...to bring troops to the front, and to gather and transport materials and supplies to and from the various manufacturing facilities.

TRUCKS DO NOT SPAWN OR RE-SPAWN!!!! They have to be built, it takes time, it takes resources,.and NOTHING is more infuriating than someone who steals a truck full of supplies while the owner is gathering/building, just because they want to "get to the action faster".

3- As mentioned, Foxhole has friendly fire; don't "spray and pray", and watch where you lob your 'nades! You WILL kill your teammates if you shoot and/or explode them, and the game will automatically lock you out from using weapons or vehicles for 20 minutes if you team kill too much.

You will also probably be votekicked by other players on the server....so yeah.

4- LOOT THE ENEMY CORPSES! Some battles in Foxhole are real meat grinders, lasting several real-time hours! At the end, the enemy will have dropped dozens and dozens of backpacks with grenades, ammo, weapons, medical supplies etc on the field. That's stuff YOUR TEAM doesn't have to mine for and build! FREE STUFF!!! DO IT!!!!

When you use a truck, do what you can to leave the the truck unlocked and public when you are done using it. There is a LOT of scenarios where people just leave trucks in a place that just stack up and make a mess.

Very true. I logged back in an hour ago and went to one of our bases; I was able to unlock and stack SEVEN trucks into a motorpool. From one base! I also was able to consolidate all kinds of scrap, building materials, fuel, sulfur, and even a HOWTZER into one full truckload of stuff.

Hell, someone even locked and abandonned a fully fuelled and armed tank way in the back.

May want to put a heads up on the voice chat that ALL local players can hear it, even enemies.

Hi there! This is a very helpful post. If you want this to get greater visibility it would be beneficial to make a guide.

Great post. One thing I'm in doubt that how the gun works? I pointed to the enemy and it didn't hit. Also, I pointed behind the enemy's back slightly and it didn't hit. Really confused and I'm thinking to be a builder, supporter or a combat medic than a gunner.

When targeting at an enemy, make sure the small white circle at the end of your firing/target line is on the enemy to ensure you are consistently hitting them. Not every shot will be a direct hit though, sometimes you'll just miss even though your reticule (so to speak) is on them. I assume there is a small random chance of missing just to make the game a little more fun in battles.

If you're looking to getting in to supporting/logistics/building then it as simple as getting in to a truck (build one if you don't have one) and just start harvesting the refined nodes (broken down tanks which you need a sledgehammer for) or the scrap nodes with a regular hammer.

Then ask in team chat who needs what type of mats and where, rinse and repeat. I spent a good 4-5 hours straight after getting the game only doing logistics. Harvest, refine, transport then rinse and repeat. It's a lot of fun knowing you're helping your team and it has it's own personal rewards as everyone loves a good logistics guy, so you'll end up with a ton of commends, leading to a higher level/rank.

Another good way to support your team (when the fronts are quiet, or even the server is) is to build up a large stockpile of equipment (ammo, weapons, first aid kits, SS, everything etc.) at the Town Halls or FOBs where your teams troops will be spawning, when the fighting does break out. It'll give your side a good buffer to play with during an intense fight rather than having to worry about running a constant supply line during a fight.

It also ensure all newcomers who spawn in or respawn have access to anything they might need without having to resort to backtracking to other FOBs for their gear then returning to the front lines.

Nothing worse than an enemy tank/halftrack showing up to the front lines but all your RPGs and shells are two towns back at HQ, rather than at hand where the action is.
