How do you guys tackle needs and route of walking
Because every damn time when i reach day 2 all of my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ supplies are gone, because Haruspex eats it up in whole day, most of people who i wanna trade with are "not interested" in my stuff,my inventory became mix of trash, food and some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ herbs. While doing quests i often end up circling, while npc talking nonsense give like 0 hint what to do.

Last time i snapped, gone back to day 1 and done child crusade(aka murdering every child in my sight),rip their organs out and repeat(very stress reliving experience).

While i enjoy atmosphere and preety much loved day 1 next day becomes chores filed with rng and alot nonsense.

Any tips for guy who struggling with this stuff??

Use a walkthrough or lower the difficulty. I used a guide for a lot of my playthrough, but I imagine I wouldn't have needed it as much if I'd just lowered the difficulty.

This game is the hardest game I've ever played and I've played a lot of games in my time - it's not for everyone.

If the writing, lore, and story doesn't interest you, I'd say this game is not for you. All you're left with is some very punishing survival mechanics that will test even the most hardcore survival-game fans.

You can get a lot of food by trading with the kids. I got a lot of dried fish especially. Just remember to check all the trash cans on your way. Don't be afraid to run constantly because water is plentiful especially during the first days but also later if you plan well. The quests are usually fairly straightforward from my experience. Just check your "thoughts" and waypoints on the map.

Best advice I can give is to shift through every trashcan you find, go into stores to buy cheap trading items and the food with the higher hunger:cost ratio (Fresh bread, fresh meat, fresh fish and milk. Never buy tan and pemmican with money), trade away the trading items to get things of better value, or a greater amount of trading items for other people (A tip: each kid has their preference in nuts. Some prefer hazelnuts, others prefer chestnuts, etc., so try to get the best value by trading to them what they like). Lastly, on the first day, try turning yourself over at the Town Hall between 19:00 and 20:00, you will get some free food at the cost of skipping through about an hour of time.

If you get to day 4 and after, you'll start receiving payment for your service. Better reputation also nets better rewards, so it might be a good idea to quench your bloodlust on criminals rather than on innocent people. Holding "C" gets you into sneak mode, which is blatantly OP. Sneak behind a criminal with a knife, then with two sneak power attacks he is down, and you have potentially a buncha loot in your hands. Just try to make sure there aren't a dozen more criminals around the corner to get revenge for their friend.

Something I really recommend is building up some supplies by digging in garbage cans, then knock on doors and go inside. You can find lots of people inside buildings to trade with so it's way faster than wandering the streets. Try trading with a slight advantage for the NPC so you can build up your reputation in that area.

I haven't actually beaten this game. I think the farthest I ever got was day 4, but I suck at it so much I don't know if I'll ever be able to get farther, even with everything I've learned, but thanks Lynceus for telling me about sneaking around, I'll have to try that.

I'm pretty sure it is on the 4th day that you will start receiving payments at the Town Hall, so if you are able to salvage your run enough for you to survive until then, you should get enough money/food to recover it without having to restart. On day 6, I believe, you also get an opportunity to get two of the single best food item in the game for free, as well as a unique scalpel, so it is still possible to get back on your feet if you don't want to restart.

Playing again and managing to do much better than before thanks to your newfound knowledge is arguably one of the most enjoyable parts of the game, though, so as long as you don't mind going through it again, it's not a bad option either.

Anyways, I hope you are able to get through the game, and have fun while doing so. It possibly has the best written story I have ever seen in a game, and I think you'll definitely find it worth it. Good luck!

I've restarted this game so many times, and yeah, it gets easier each time, and I notice more and more foreshadowing each time I restart, but I've got this big fear of dying in the game since there's a punishment, but should I just go with that as well? I saw a review of the game that mentioned how you get some weird visions from dying and continuing on eventually I think, so maybe that would actually help.

The thing is that I find the game fascinating, but I just don't feel like I'm very good at it. I'm tempted to mess with the settings and just lower the build up of my hunger, but I also want to play the game as intended. I really want to see more of the game and figure out what's going on, and to see it all for myself instead of just watching someone else play.

Oh, you should certainly continue even if you die! It nets you a lot of interesting dialogue, including with any other characters which might have died. The game sort of expects that you die at least a few times, and the penalties for dying just a few times are not too extreme. Even if you die dozens of times, the game never gets impossible, and there is a limit to how much the game is allowed to punish you.

If you are struggling a lot with hunger, feel free to lower it a little bit. I think it is better not to, but if it gets you through the game, it is worth it.

If you don't mind me asking, though, how is it that you go about the first few days? Do you buy the revolver, save your money, or spend it? What do you spend it on? and so on
Fear Ghoul Mar 9, 2021 @ 6:25pm
I've learned not to save up my money too much. Even if I get enough for the revolver, I just don't think it's worth it, and instead I tend to spend my money on nuts in the stores so I can trade them with the kids. It's been a while since I've played, so I forgot exactly who wants what, but I make sure to get stuff from the kids that I can then trade to adults in buildings so I can get food. I also make sure to get lots of bottles and fill them with water so I can trade them to the guys who want them for things like the tourniquet or whatever it is that other people want, while also trying to make sure I save enough for tinctures later on.

Like I said, I tend to trade in a way so I can build up my reputation with people, and after playing through the beginning several times, I now know how to finish the day with some extra food, but it tends to fall apart by the end of the third day. I also always make sure to buy the special bull since knowing this game it will help me out eventually. From what I can tell, saving money isn't really worth it, and instead it's better to save enough for the bull and then spend the rest on stuff that'll help with trading for food.

I also play the game with the kids and the boxes, and make sure to follow the rules since again, I figure sticking close to the superstitious beliefs of the culture are likely to help in this game. I know where they are and as I go about the town doing stuff I make sure to visit them.

Another thing I'm not too sure about has to do with the theater. I seem to remember it being required in the first game, but this time it doesn't seem to be. I make sure to go each time, even though I've seen these things quite a few times after trying again and again, since I'm not sure if there are consequences for going or not.

Now that I know what I'm doing, I also make sure to do that thing with the candles in that house with Notkin and Khan, but it doesn't seem to really do anything as far as I can tell. I just do it in the hopes that there are some actual effects from doing it, and I get to loot some stuff from the house as well.

I agree that the revolver is probably not worth it, however fun it may be to carry it around and take it out repeatedly just to see the animation! I'd say trading away water bottles to drunks is generally ill-advised, since during the course of the game you'll slowly be drained of any water you have. I generally try to get as many bottles of water as possible in the factory (I usually manage about 30 + some in my inventory), and by the end of the game I've always had only a few remain. I don't know how good tourniquets/bandages are for bartering again, but if you try to always kills bandits with sneak attacks, you shouldn't be needing them a whole lot. Since ingesting morphine or brewed painkillers before sleep recovers a ton of health (depending on how long you sleep for), I've never had much necessity for those immediate healing items

Although getting extra reputation is always nice, and becomes really useful later on, I'd say between getting some more of it in the beggining and getting some more value for your trading, it is better to do the latter. You'll get many opportunities to increase your reputation, and in the beggining of the 1st day I'm pretty sure it is pointless since it inevitably goes into the gutter at the middle of the day.

Another thing I'm not too sure about has to do with the theater. I seem to remember it being required in the first game, but this time it doesn't seem to be. From what I know, going to the theather, other than giving you a better look at the story and hints at what is to come (and having an achievement tied to watching all the pantomimes), is only really useful because it reveals the location of the Dead Item Shop immediately after you leave it. The Dead Item Shop is really important, and can single-handedly save you and other characters by selling food, valuables, and Schmowder.
(P.S.: buy all candy wrappers, when the time comes)

Now that I know what I'm doing, I also make sure to do that thing with the candles in that house with Notkin and Khan, but it doesn't seem to really do anything as far as I can tell. Other than basically setting up your matchstick supply for nearly the rest of the game, it does have a great effect on the game: if you complete the quest, you prevent the Crude Sprawl from being infected/burned at the beggining of the Plague. It is one of about three quests (I believe) that are able to prevent an entire district from being infected, and I'd say it's more than worth it both roleplay/gameplay wise.
Fear Ghoul Mar 10, 2021 @ 10:38pm
Yeah, I was wondering if there is a house that contains the plague each night like the kids seemed to imply. I also tested out attacking bandits after you said how to sneak around, and that really helped with the fight, getting the first hit, I'll be sure to do this at night the next time I attempt the game. I was also surprised with how much money I had when I loaded my save file, 3000, so I guess I wasn't spending as much as I thought. I still don't think it's worth buying food from the stores since they charge so much, I've learned that nuts are a far better investment since I can do the whole thing with trading with kids who might have food, and then getting stuff from the kids to trade to adults.

I mostly get the tourniquets for trading rather than healing, since I've found men who want them. I also try to upgrade my equipment, so now know to save some of the stuff I find the in garbage rather than just trading it all, with the expansion to my carrying capacity being the most important thing to me, since that just means I can carry even more stuff.

I was also surprised to find that the last time I played this game was in November. I'll probably just start the whole game over again the next time I try this seriously, but for now I've been replaying Planescape Torment.

Thanks for all the advice, and for even keeping it spoiler free.

Are you saying that buying the gun is worth it? I'm really not sure when I play, but seeing how on my last attempt I ended up with 3000 on the fourth day, I'm thinking it might be worth it, and I can easily trade stuff to get bullets. I get that the whole point is that I'm supposed to figure this out on my own and determine what's worth getting and what's not, but maybe I should. I'm having trouble remembering how much the guy sells it for too.
planescaped Mar 24, 2021 @ 7:21am
I always but the Webley Fosberry. It is a steal at that price and really nice to have later on.

My last playthrough I managed to hoard enough bullets that I became the freaking punisher. XD

It sort of depends, really. If you play really well and are very lucky (especially with bandit drops) it is possible to buy the revolver and still have more than enough food and general supplies to last until about the end of the day; but if you are able to do so, you probably don't need the revolver all that much anyways.

When this is not the case, however, I'd probably argue that the revolver is really not worth it. You can avoid pretty much all the really tough combat scenarios, and the only one you can't avoid does not let you have weapons with you anyways. The revolver is probably good if you mess up and end up with a bunch of robbers coming at you when you have little stamina, but then again, it takes so long to pull it out that it might not be a life-saver even then. You can also get a free shotgun later on if you are able to kill three enemies (not even with as much health as the common enemy) at once, so I just feel like buying the revolver isn't that worth it. Considering how hard it is to get ammunition anyways, it might be better to just focus on buying food and get shotgun ammo for later on, and use a knife and sneaking as your way of dispatching foes. You will have to learn how to make good use of melee combat anyways, for the aforementioned section where you have to fight enemies without having weapons.
[NRG] Michal Mar 30, 2021 @ 8:11am
I got through the game no problem without a gun and I feel like my resources were much better utilized on all the other stuff that wants your attention. The only thing you should be wary of is keeping a knife in good condition for when you can't avoid combat. But most of the time I just ran away from thugs. Even when you loot burned down districts, you will stumble upon thugs in the houses but you can usually get through a couple of cabinets before you find one. I also found that fighting 1-on-1 inside with just fists usually makes it easy to stunlock them in a corner or if they are trapped between pieces of furniture. You can also try to aggro thugs on the street, lure them to guards, let them do the fighting for you and then just finish them off. Don't worry too much about dying, the penalties aren't *that* severe and the game is balanced around you dying anyway.

In the first days, just try to learn as much as possible about where resources come from and who they are useful to - trash cans, NPCs, houses, children's caches, dead bodies. The sooner you understand what items are needed for what (parts for item repairs, crafting, trading with children/teenagers/men/women/shop owners/dead item shop, etc.), the easier time you will have because there is always a way out of a sticky situation, you just need to know where to look. There isn't a single item in the game that isn't useful somehow. You basically have to learn the town's culture and it's a central part of the game. To get as many advantages as possible later on, make sure to *always* finish hospital work and maintain good reputation around town.
