How to save Rubin?

I tried helping Rubing evade the Kin trying to kill him both times. Went to his house later on, visited while he was "sleeping" but he still turns up dead come morning. What did I miss?

If you're trying to lure away the 3 guys on day 5, make sure the quest updates appropriately (there are some tips for that in the above thread). You can also just kill them to be sure, but I'm not sure whether that has any consequences later on.

That's exactly what I did but still he died. He died despite me killing all 3 of them

Nevermind what I said I guess. It happens on Day 7 after the cutscene, right?

Yeah. I speak to him in his home while he's in bed. No answer from Rubin though. But I followed the marker there. Then new day starts and the game says he is dead.

I'm just playing through this part myself tbh, but at this point I'm not sure you can do anything about it. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can chime in.

Did you discovered the cure before day 7?

I kind of remember reading that one of the end-game achievements requires you to speak to Rubin on Day 11 (12?) as a trigger. If this is true, Rubin should be able to survive his ordeal.

I can't find where exactly I read this but I'll keep looking for it.

I don't think I ever did find a cure save for the schmowders. I kill the bull take his blood to Dankovski and that's it and come back so to get his results. Did I miss something? Did I miss picking it up?

Rubin dies on the eve of day 7 if you failed to "complete" act 3. There are several plot threads you need to follow up on:
-Did you fix the alembic (big machine) in your house?
-Did you subsequently create several antibiotic serums and test them?
-After all that, did you take a restful nap?

Nope none of those, I fixed it completely on my 1st playthrough but didn't bother much with the antibiotics or with the sleeping, just kept ODing on coffee

Thanks for the clarification. Do you know if it's necessary to brew a serum with each organ or is there some other rule to it? And can you test them on yourself or do you need to do it on infected people?

Here's some info, in increasing order of how big the hint is.

Brew one of each infected organ (don't forget infected blood too). Then, test all of them on the infected. One of them has to be the cure, right?

Ever heard the term "sleep on it"? Do not neglect the power of dreams. Seriously, they're really important... people have been known to achieve breakthroughs when the rest.

And what better place to sleep than your own home (read:base)?

Sometimes, I feel too jittery to sleep properly. I've found talking to people really helps with calming my nerves.

Yeah, I know when the game throws in those hints i just never figured they would matter for Rubin's quest

If Rubin's survival depends on whether you find the cure in time, does that mean you can just... skip the two fights to "save" him? Or do you actually need to protect him both times for him to survive?

You have to protect him and then tell him you have discovered the cure.

Telling him anything whilst he is dead by odonghs is pointless, don't you think?

Discovering the cure without telling him won't do much either.

I believe there's also some specific dialogue options during that night that may kill him even with the cure in mind.

Pretty demanding ♥♥♥♥♥ this Rubin.
