And this specific revolver is broken. Like any gun it can give you confidence, but not much use when 3 people with knives surround you.
Or maybe in different words. You can spend this money in a better way.
OR
you can find it for free if rng gods favor you.
Knives are a lot more efficient for most of the game since you can stunlock people and just keep slashing them if you manage your stamina well. There's one section with mandatory fisticuffs and that requires you to understand the stunlock mechanic and how to block or you will die a lot.
Towards the end there are two quests, one will give you a free shotgun and the other a free revolver. You can do both. But tbh, by that point you're better off selling them for food.
Don't. I'm regulary stinking on this laughing stock of a revolver on this board and I do it for a reason. The revolver is absolute trash, which eats up your resources, whilst providing nothing in return. Let the numbers speak: 2 headshots to kill an unnarmed thug, 12-14 shots until complete break, 3 relatively expensive items to repair it JUST TO ENABLE IT TO SHOOT. Further maintenance will require you to gather even more items.
It's a painful topic for me. Save yourself a dissapointment...
The pistols purpose is to dispatch an enemy at range quickly when attacked by multiple enemies (or dropping an infected when cornered in a house), so you can then swap back to your hands for the 1 on 1.
Once you accept the pistols purpose is for only this particular niche, you can start to assess it’s value to you. Any damage you prevent is that much longer you can allow yourself to run at maximum exhaustion or maximum hunger. Long story short, buying the pistol allows you to convert bullets into virtual food/coffee if you only use it in situations where you would likely take a hit.
Maybe, if it is your first playthrough, you'd better spend this money on food instead, and avoid quests with fighting involved as much as possible. Yes, probably this way you won't get a good ending, but at least you will live through 12 days.
If you are already knowledgable with Pathologic mechanics, there would be times when revolver would help a lot. Though, you shouldn't rely heavily on it. The best way to use it is in combination with kitchen knife. Basically, you make the first shot and then switch to knife and finish the job (if fighting non-humans). Otherwise you can use it to kill marauders running away from you, if you didn't manage to finish them off in hand-to-hand combat.
right now people are saying it takes two headshots to kill with it
In 1-on-1 situations you can (and should) rely on your fists, but blocking & stamina management becomes impossible when there are 3-4 guys attacking you at the same time. You will want a firearm to even out the odds.
