v1.13 - cant get to promontory point :(
Hello

I'm trying to get to promontory point have 19 months to do BUT:

1. there is a station there already, i can connect my rails to it, but when i select it as RailLine point, then none of my other west coast stations show up as available to be select as endpoint.
2. So then if i try another way, by building my own station (so i can try and select it as my RailLine point) i cant do that either as the area is off limit.....

so how do i complete the 5th campaign ?

im on 1.13.0-25864 NA

Second, I can also set up a line from Promontory Point station to San Francisco station. And again, this doesn't make much sense as only passengers transported from San Francisco to Promontory Point are counted.

As with most of these problems, it's simply a missing connection or wrong signal that prevents the connection.

I'm running 25839 - seems the beta is older than the latest release :( They did it in the past and promised us never to do it again in the future!

Anyway, I updated to your version and all I've said still applies. So check your rails and signals.

You can't build the station because Promontory Point is off limit, see the red/gray striped overlay.
I have an old save and disconnected Promontory Point and was able to connect it again running the beta version.

lol yeah i kno, it is off construction limit, so how do i complete that campaign ?

You said you can't build the station. If you know it's off limit...

You have to connect Promontory Point station in a legit way with San Francisco station.

I can run trains from Los Angeles station to Promontory Point station, too. Not that it makes sense because the task asks you to "transport X passengers from San Francisco to Promontory Point without stopping"... with X depending on your difficulty setting.

The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Thineboot is almost certainly right: you can't set up a train route because there is no legal ROUND TRIP path. That usually happens because a switch is missing on one-way track so the train can go from one Station to the other, but can't get back.

Hi
ok thanks, I'll reload the savepoint and trash my line and rebuild.
cheers

UPDATE:
yup, it was the double cross over (two parallel tracks crisscrossing onto eachother).
I dont know why i cant get it to work, but i picked the wrong track to put it in.
once removed i was able to select both stations just fine.

thanks Thineboot!

I'd bet a whole nickel the problem is no legal round-trip path.

This is pretty much always the problem when you try to set up a route and your desired destination becomes unselectable when you set the origin.

Screenshots might help find the missing switch/blocking directional signal.
As of March 21, 2024 this problem is still not fixed. Just bought the game from Steam last week, I'm not sure what version it is but sure enough, got to Chapter 5 in the Campaigns and at first it would not even let me connect tracks to the station at Promontory Point if I tried to connect from the closest town Elko. The game would not let me connect a dedicated track from San Francisco either (still hidden behind red striped off limits area) but after some playing around, if I STARTED the tracks at Promontory Point the game would let me build the tracks to other towns or cities but I still could not schedule the Rail Line, none of the cities would light up green. Before you critique and say it's not the game; yes, I achieved all the other goals, there were no contradictions or errors in my railroad tracks. I even laid an entirely new uninterrupted track solely dedicated to round trip travel from San Francisco to Promontory Point with no stops, intersections, towns or any other connections of any kind, save 3 Supply Towers. No go. I could not schedule a stop anywhere from Promontory Point. Out of curiosity I clipped the tracks back to Elko, the closest town before Prom Point and it worked! I could run that dedicated line from San Fran to Elko. After the test run to Elko, suddenly the game decided that it would work as intended and I scheduled a Rail Line from San Fran to Prom Point and won the campaign. It's almost like the game had to see that the line would run to Elko first before opening up. This thread was the first search hit on Google so I took the time to write the solution I found.

Hopefully the developers are still working with this game as I JUST BOUGHT IT and this bug is shameful to be honest, it's been YEARS since buyers of this product with their hard earned money have been frustrated with this problem. Do better.
