Warehouses Connected To Resources
If you build a warehouse near a resource you get the green circle and the blue line showing they are 'connected'. However, I can't seem to get the product onto a train. Is it possible ? Do I have to set up normal station to move the product into the warehouse that way ? If so, what's the link for ?

Maybe I should add a little context. I'm dong the Gold Rush scenario and I need to build up several cities in an area that is a bit sparse on resources. So I wanted to create a ring-road of warehouses and ship everything in from across the map. I found a spot that had a few resources already there and was hoping I could just connect the warehouse like a normal station. Even though is gives the 0+12/90 stats you see when you connect a warehouse to a city there does not seem to be the same invisible flow of goods so I can't seem to use a warehouse like a normal station.

Sorry if it sounds confusing. I guess I want to know should I be able to connect a warehouse to a resource and use it like a normal station?

Have you set the Warehouse to accept and Store that resource?

Rural Warehouses near a Resource Site NEVER store that resource, they ONLY serve as a place to pick (load) up that Resource, the Resources remain at the Resource Site(s) where they can be picked up at ANY Station/Warehouse that is within range of the Resource Site (including by other Companies' trains at their own Stations/Warehouses).

If a train loads carloads of a Resource at a Rural (or any) Warehouse, it can take those carloads to a different Warehouse that is set to accept/hold that Resource. When this happens those carloads of the Resource ARE in that 2nd Warehouse, i.e. they are not at a Resource Site . If that 2nd Warehouse is within range of a City, then that City can move those Resources/Goods to the City's internal Warehouse where they can now be consumed by the City's population or used by it's Industry(s). You will ONLY be PAID a delivery FEE when those carloads are moved into the City's Internal Warehouse. Once that happens those carloads can NEVER be picked up again by a train (this prevents being paid multiple delivery fees for the same carload being delivered to multiple locations). As long as those carloads stay in the 2nd Warehouse, other trains can pick them and take them to another Station or Warehouse.

P.S. you do NOT get any bonuses (due to Tech or special employees) that would Normally be paid to a Train that delivers to a (City) Station, if instead those Resources/Goods are dropped at Warehouse and then moved from the Warehouse to a City. You will ONLY get the basic 2,000 per carload in that case (when the City takes possession by moving them to it's internal Warehouse).

When you look at a Resource/Good in a Warehouse you will see a 1st Number / 2nd Number. The 1st Number is the amount actually in the Warehouse, the 2nd Number is the amount being stored at the Resources Sites within Range of that Warehouse that can/could be picked up at that Warehouse. You can change the default maximum amount (20 carloads) of a particular that can be stored in a Warehouse.

Also on some Maps it is possible for a Warehouse to be within Range of a Resource Site and a City at the same time. When that happens, that Warehouse will NOT serve to transfer resources from the Site to City. In order to be used by a City, Resources have to be delivered by train to a Station/Warehouse within range of that City. However, wagons can deliver those resources directly from the Site to the City (but you get NO delivery fee for that, if you own the Resource Site it will generate it's own profits)

What you generally describe should work.

Are you sure the train's destination has unfulfilled demand for the good? That is the usual cause of not loading goods that are present.

It IS possible for a Warehouse to contain the type of good produced by a connected Rural Industry, but it requires bringing it in from another location by train. That is not likely to be practical, but it is possible.

It is possible to set up a Warehouse(s) near one or more Cities in a particular area or region, and then ship in Resources and or Goods from a long way away to that Warehouse(s), as long as you set that Warehouse(s) to receive/hold them (as well as increase the amounts that they will hold), and those Resources/Goods can be not currently demanded by those Cities. Then in the future additional trains will deliver those Resources/Goods from the Warehouse to the consuming Cities.

The one thing that Warehouse will NOT do is hold carloads of Resources from Resource Sites within range of that Warehouse. Those carloads of Resources remain at their Site depots. However, as Chaney points out, that Warehouse could physically hold Resources of those types, if they are brought in (by train) from OTHER Sites that produce the same Resource(s).

You CAN pickup Resources from a Rural Warehouse that is within Range (linked to) Resource Site(s), as long as you set that Warehouse to hold/receive that type of Resource. But you will NOT see them as being IN that Warehouse, they will appear to still be at their Resource Site(s) depot(s). (This is required by Game Mechanics so that those Resources can be picked up by trains at multiple Stations/Warehouses within Range of the same Resource Site)

However, as I noted in my first message, if that Warehouse is within Range of BOTH a Resource Site and a City, it (the Warehouse) will NOT make them available to the City, instead the Resource(s) will be shipped directly by local wagons to the City. Which can limit the amounts of the Resource(s) being shipped directly to the City (and generate NO delivery fees to you).

IF Chaney's and my messages are not enough to help you, describe what you are trying to do in more detail, and what your problems or questions are.

Oh dear, school boy error. I had the wrong resource set at the receiving warehouse.

Thanks for your help is resolving this. Maybe the lesson is not to play this game when (slightly) under the influence of alcohol !!

If you get that wrong when (slightly) under the influence of alcohol you should overthink the internal use of alcohol in general ;)

Some of us get that kind of thing wrong without the alcohol or even being a school boy. Glad you got it sorted.

I can approve this message since I don't drink while playing ;)

I wouldn't normally drink and play games, but thought a whisky might help in getting over a lingering cold !!

I bought 4 cans of beer for last Christmas - I still have 2 left... and that includes giving one to my niece when she visited a while back !! So I wouldn't normally drink and anything, really !! :steamhappy:

My usual tipple is nothing.

On the rare occasions I drink a beer that's not a year old to dinner I try to keep breathing :steamhappy:
