The protagonist is you. There's no gender. They're faceless and mute. The point is that it's you in the cockpit.

Well thats a relief cause i saw the trailer and it was a female pilot which is beyond silly.

You must not play Japanese games often. They're the most politically-conservative entertainment product you can stumble across--by US standards.

Also, if the protagonist is a woman, doesn't mean it's feminist propaganda. That's like saying Kill Bill and the Alien movies are "feminist propaganda" just because they have women in the leading roles--regardless of their clearly fanservice scenes. You have The Last Jedi for that accusation.

Btw, would it be better for your head if I say that the women in this game will be relatively helpless to your male prowess and will fawn over your Ace skills by the ending? That's how AC5, AC6, and ACAH ended. Enjoy.

Also enjoy getting this thread shut down because for some reason, the mods doesn't like anti-feminist sentiments:

The female "pilot" you are referencing is the squadron mechanic. Also there are many female pilots in strangreal. Being as this is not based on the real world there is no ban a female pilots or front line soldiers. You should know before you spend you money that while the protagonist is whoever you wish to think they are there will be pilots who are female and some may even be aces.

Wat. There's no Squadron mechanic in AC7. They're just NPCs who shoot one or two missiles while they fawn over the player's skills and react accordingly to the plot. This isn't AC5, and even there it's almost the same only you can command them to do a little bit more.

That is not a choice. You will get called an "ace" by the end and there's nothing you can do about it--even if all of your mission results are Ds.

Avril is the Spare squadron mechanic. That is her role in the plot. Also the named aces that were in every game are likely to be in this game and some of them could very well be female because there were female aces in the other games.

Ah, you actually meant literal mechanic and not some gameplay mechanisms. And the minor, faceless non-plot important 'aces' that will get backstories if you shoot them down. Very well.

you kind of play as an airplane and u dont see the pilot, although there is a story. usually its a man that is the main character but I think sometimes you play as differentt people throughout the game ? even if its the Tracer looking lesbian character though I dont mind because its japan and they don't have any illusions about supposed gender equality, they study history and would know about stuff like Kara Hultgreen stalling her F-14 during a carrier landing. But they also ascribe to fantasies about powerful women and women surpassing their natural role, hence how you see anime girls and all that, so if I see a girl even if she has short hair like the one from Berserk I don't just assume its feminist propaganda, because this is a japanese game, so I would say don't worry about it.

Man, you have a weird conception of "feminist propaganda". Have you never seen guys fantasizing about girls overpowering them? That's basically BDSM, and it's well alive in Japan--even if it's just tropes.

I really don't think "short-haired strong female got ♥♥♥♥♥♥ by a male arch demon" is a 'feminist propaganda' lmao. Heck, I don't even think any Japanese materials--anime included--so far has any feminist propaganda. Most of them just wanted to fantasize strong female leads to pair with the male leads, while others does indeed write strong female lead but without denigrating males or getting into politics like the Western entertainment product does nowadays.

And btw, this is my definition of feminist propaganda:
