Currently Known Issues
Hey everyone! Thanks for pruchasing the game and we're sorry about the issues you're facing. Here's what we know so far:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Loading Times - FIXED
We're seeing issues with both long loading times and crashes. We currently believe this is due to AMD CPUs, and are investigating the issue. It looks like UE4 has known issues with AMD processors, but we'll keep you updated with anything we find out.

DirectX 12
We know some people were having issues with DirectX12, so we made the decision to pull the option. You can, if you really want to try it, run the game using DirectX 12 by following these steps:
  • Navigate to the executable ("\Steam\steamapps\common\The Turing Test\TheTuringTest\Binaries\Win64\TheTuringTest.exe)
  • Create a shortcut and send it to the desktop (or any other preferred place)
  • Right click on the shortcut and click properties.
  • At the end of the 'target' field, add ' -dx12'.
  • Launch from the shortcut
This will launch the game using DirectX12, but will require you to launch the game from the shortcut rather than from the Steam Library.

No Subtitles - FIXED
During the option puzzle in Chapter 1, TOM says 'Perhaps we cannot solve this yet' but the subtitles show as 'No subtitles'. We're working on it :)

Audio Logs - INTENDED
Some are reporting the Audio logs are muffled and are difficult to understand. This was an artistic decision, with the idea being you are eavesdropping on conversations. We wanted this to be a struggle to understand, a struggle to eavesdrop, and so it is a challenge put in place by having the audio muffled and no subtitles displayed.

Re-mapping Controls - FIXED
This is fixed in a patch, but will only work if you have not run the game yet.
If you are trying to re-map the left and right arrow keys to movement, follow these steps:

Navigate to the local appdata folder (type %appdata% into a windows explorer bar, go up one folder, select local)
Delete the 'VenusPrototype' folder.
Verify the integrity of the game-cache through steam
Navigate to "Steam\steamapps\common\The Turing Test\TheTuringTest\Config\DefaultInitialInput.ini" and open it up
Delete the following lines (they may be a bit hard to find):
+AxisMappings=(AxisName="TurnRateKeys",Key=Left,Scale=-1.000000)
+AxisMappings=(AxisName="TurnRateKeys",Key=Right,Scale=1.000000)
Launch the game, go to settings and select Reset To Default

You should now be able to remap the controls :)

Fatal Error crash after opening logo
This crash is currently under investigation.

The following has helped some people, but is not a guaranteed fix:
  • Navigate to the appdata folder (open a windows explorer window and type %appdata%)
  • Go up one folder (you should see Local, LocalLow and Roaming)
  • Enter the Local folder and delete the 'VenusPrototype' folder
  • Verify integrity of game cache through Steam
  • Re-launch the game

Other people are reporting that disabling integrated graphics fixes the issue.

Vanishing Power boxes - POTENTIALLY FIXED
Some power boxes are randomly dissapearing, and sometimes restarting the area fixes it. We're investigating this.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for being patient with us and we're sorry these issues have appeared. We'll keep you up-to-date as any developments are made, so feel free to check back here in the future.

I can't understand how you can release a game without testing it on AMD systems.
Bulldozer and Piledriver based CPUs aren't uncommon.

We can always force the use of dx12 by putting the "-dx12" in the command line options, can't we ? Right click on "The Turring Test" -> Properties -> General -> Set Launch Options, and paste -dx12 there.

Maybe the devs don't have AMD systems. I've only got systems on Intel and NVIDIA, and I don't really know others who have AMD systems. So if I develop something, there's a good chance I won't be able to know how it performs on AMD systems. Sort of a general problem with game development, you can't know how things will perform on a wide range of systems if you don't own or have easy access to such systems.

Over 20% of the steam users which participated the steam hardware survey are amd cpu users.
I don't say the had to test it on thousands of test systems, but one piledriver or bulldozer based cpu was definitely possible.
I mean it's published by Square Enix and not by a guy at the corner...

Dunno if Square Enix provides test PCs as part of its publishing services, but it is still an indie development team that may not necessarily have the required hardware. Anyway, it's an engine problem, and you'd be hard-pressed to fix it yourself if Epic can't even fix it properly.

Glad you noticed it.
My game hangs at loading the second part. The only way to return to WinBug$ is calling the taskmanager, cmd, and tasklist -> taskkill <TheTuringTest_PID>
The game at first runs flawlessly, with beatiful 60 fps or even more but the second part after landing in Europa crash the system and must restart the game to play.
Plz fix this, i love the game.
My CPU is AMD FX8350 eight core Processor.
Win7 SP1.
Nvidia GTX960
8 GB RAM.

Yesterday I was able to play and got though about halfway through the game with only a 3 crashes wile loading between levels. But now after it patched, I can’t get anything to load at all.

Windows 10 pro
AMD FX 8350
Nvidia gtx 970
12 gigs of ram

I've had to kill the game process at every chapter-load and re-open the game. The chapter would then load OK after clicking 'Continue.' Until I hit Chapter 4: Now it won't finish loading no matter what I do. I cannot proceed with the game at the moment. I do have an AMD CPU.

Edit: punctuation

Hi! The AMD CPU bug (causing long load times and crashes) has now been fixed in the v.2 patch released today (01/09/2016).

I have the same CPU and the game does not start at all.

Minor thing - I did managed to get "stuck" during after solving the Chapter 3 bonus puzzle. The double sided power socket next to the gate allowed me to grab the power from one side, step through the gate, and deposit in the other side of the socket.

Not having a second power charge, I had to restart the chapter since I could neither pull the charge through the gate or activate the final power node that ends the bonus puzzle.

Not really a big deal since I was deliberately trying to break the game, but notable.

The fatal error crash happens with me, but the integrity of game cache solution didn't work... Justo bought it and cant even open it.

Yeah, it's a real struggle when you're deaf.
(Just to be clear, I'm not, but I'm sure a lot of people who play are. I just like to be able to play games after midnight without waking the whole neighborhood up)

Anyway, apart from this issue, I'm really enjoying the game so far!
headlessRobot Sep 2, 2016 @ 7:46pm
I thought the same, but looking around the crew's rooms there are what appears to be transcriptions in some member's personal tablets.
BTW: The game now works perfect!! am enjoying a lot!!

My game still doesn't work. Everytime I open up the game I just get a black screen and it doesn't do anything. I've tried updating my drivers, restarting my pc, verifying the cache, uninstalling and reinstalling, administrator mode, windowed mode...nothing seems to work. Kinda disappointing because I really wanna play this

I'm on an i7 4790k and a gtx 980
