Ok, well maybe not lethal. Regardless of difficulty will I miss much by skipping the first tutorial map and starting a larger one? Or is it worth doing the starter map for entertainment and story? I'd rather not sink a bunch of time into scavenging for a base and map that I'll be leaving to enter the larger main game. If you were going to redo your first big play through knowing what you know now, which would you choose for your first experience?

there is nothing like a "starter map" the tutorial part itself is only in a small instance, after that you change to the choosen map with your 4 tutorial survivors.
and when you talk abouth lethal than you will see the best base when you nearly at ending the game, thnx to the tons of freaks in the way and the big masses of plague hearths around every base spot. so lethal and "best base spots" deny each other in terms of how long you will ocupy sayed base slot.
look at the wiki and decide yourself what you deem fitting the most for yourself, not everyone has the same sense of what is good or bad base and mapwise.

I found the map I knew best was the best one for me my 1st time on Lethal.
That was Drucker County for me. I knew all the shortcuts and special locations, etc.
And each map has at least one decent enough base for late game, some could be considered to be better than others for certain Legacies though.

I would have no clue because I'd just jump in blind and hope that RnGesus treated me nicely in my 1st Lethal run. :) But i can't turn back time, i knew all the starting maps well enough by the time Lethal came out.

Remember, you can watch some youTube tutprial videos, there is some very good content creators with decent vids to help you decide which map you want as your first Lethal experience.

Good luck and have fun.

Personally, for the 4 normal maps, I kinda like Providence Ridge because of the truck stop/biker bar and fire station bases. If it's your first Lethal run, the fire station there is nice for the built in power/water station since you won't have the Builder legacy unlock yet for Lethal

Meigher Valley for the landmark that provides electricity, maybe even water. its the only landmark I've never claimed so not sure on the water. Or even Trumble Valley for the landmark as well as scentblockers are basically a free cheat code to take out plague hearts insanely easy

It's only power (in exchange for 2 labor, influence per day, or parts per day; instead of fuel). It does not provide water.

Scent blockers can be obtained on any map via the biochem mod for the infirmary.
