Borderlands 2 Linux Bind to mouse buttons
I cant bind my "thumb-buttons" to any action. Would like to have the "back-mouse-button" to be the hit-action and the "forward-mouse-button" to be the special-skill.

Is it only me that got that problem?

It's a known issue caused by something they did for the Mac port. It's easy for them to fix (they quickly did it for the Pre-Sequel before its release), but the lengthy, mandatory process of testing patches means we won't see it until they've got more substantial stuff they can push through at the same time.

Same problem here, with a Logitech mouse on Ubuntu 12.04.
The thumb buttons work fine everywhere else (e.g. "back" on websites), but the game can only bind mouse buttons 1-3.

So +1 for a fix :)

My mouse (also Logitech) only has one thumb button (Mouse-4 in-game) and I don't use the middle mouse button (Mouse-3 in-game), so I just remapped them using xinput.

To find the name of my mouse:
xinput list

Mine is named "Logitech USB Gaming Mouse", so I list the button names, and the current mapping:
xinput list --long "Logitech USB Gaming Mouse" | grep labels xinput get-button-map "Logitech USB Gaming Mouse"

I find that I want to swap "Button Middle" and "Button Side", 2 and 8 respectively. To swap them:
xinput set-button-map "Logitech USB Gaming Mouse" 1 8 3 4 5 6 7 2

If you have more buttons, you could probably manage a workaround by mapping buttons to keys with this:

Hope this helps until we get a real fix. :D

What a bummer. Game works perfectly minus this issue.

Odder still, if you use xbindkeys and xte to tell to machine to convert mousebutton presses to specific keys (http://blog.hanschen.org/2009/10/13/mouse-shortcuts-with-xbindkeys/), this works:
- in terminal
- in setting key bindings page in BL2, i.e. it's expecting a key press and records the correct keyboard key when I click the mouse
but NOT:
- in the live game
- in the text entry thing (y)
Weird and annoying!

Don't get your hopes up for a fix. If it really works in the Pre-Sequel it shouldn't be a problem to fix it.
