Catch-A-Rocket Bug
Hello and good day to all. I'm currently at 68/69 on my challenges and i'm this close to getting a 100% completion rate. However, the achievement "Challenge Accepted" is hard for me to do because of this catch-a-rocket bug with my character.

I have completed Splish Splash as a pre requisite to Catch-A-Rocket and sadly its the only one left marked as undiscovered. The only uncompleted badass challenge under rocket launcher for me is Sky Rockets In Flight. For a long time i've really searched through google but i've found no solution as of yet.

I really need the help. Thanks for those who can contribute

Sky Rockets in Flight is killing enemies at a distance with a launcher. E-tech launchers with AoE work well for this - Norfleets, Topneas etc.
Catch-A-Rocket is killing enemies with a direct hit. AoE launchers are bad for this, although the Topnea works well. Torgue launchers too, but not the Nukem.

What character is suffering from this bug?

HOLY JESUS, NUKEM DOESNT COUNT AS THAT? I think this explains everything. I'll give it a try right now i'll get back to you. Thanks in advance by the way

Well still doesn't work. I've looted launchers that are torgue manufactured (I've found only those so far) and well my Nukem's useless. Catch-a-Rocket is still undiscovered

Btw, that character that suffers from this bug is Zer0.

Just to make sure, you've completed all 5 levels of Splish Splash? In a lot of cases, you only have to complete the first level of one challenge to unlock another challenge, but, according to the Wiki, you have to complete all 5 levels of Splish Splash.

If you've completed all 5 levels of Splish Splash and Catch-A-Rocket is still "undiscovered", then I guess you have hit a bug, and I don't know if there's any way to fix it for that character. You could try using Gibbed (the BL2 save file editor), but I don't know if it can edit a character's challenge progress.

Also, since you seem to be unclear on this ...

You mentioned using the Nukem, and then other Torgue launchers, for Catch-A-Rocket, and that Catch-A-Rocket is still "undiscovered". Getting hits that count towards a challenge has nothing to do with "discovering" a challenge. "Undiscovered" (normally) just means that you haven't completed the prerequisite yet. The game should be keeping track of any hits that count towards that challenge, but you won't see the count until you complete the prerequisite and the challenge is "discovered". Then any completed challenge levels will be immediately cleared.

@Waste_of_skin Thanks for replying. Yeah I have completed Splish Splash on level 5 already. Yeah it has always been on the back of my mind that it is a bug but I just refused to accept it.

I'm afraid of using Gib though as it might cause some problems in-game but yeah i'll just have a back-up svae just in case.

Yeah thanks for clarifying that bit. I'm actually confused as to why it still counts as undiscovered because I know for a fact that it can be automatically cleared once you've completed a certain pre requisite for a challenge. *sigh* Bugs for life

I don't think I've heard of this bug before, so, congrats for that, I guess?

If you try Gibbed, good luck. I tried to find the challenge info in Gibbed once, but had no luck. But maybe I just didn't look in the right place.

Yeah i'm kind of happy and sad at the same time :bandit:

Oh so in addition to cheating my way I also have to look for it. welp guess i'll just make a new character who goes on a rampage with rocket launchers I guess

Anyway, Thank you so much for replying bro. Have fun in the Borderlands!

Why?

If you're talking about starting a new character just to work on the Catch-A-Rocket challenge, I'm guessing that you're trying to get the achievement for completing the first level of the non-map/non-DLC challenges. If so, that has to be done with a single character, so completing the first level of a challenge with a different character won't help. You'd have to complete the first level of all of the other required challenges with that character too.

Oh man am I stupid. Thank you for reminding me. Good thing I haven't started playing yet.

No problem. I wish I had a better solution than just doing the challenges over. Gibbed might be worth a try. If Gibbed can be used to edit the challenge data, there may be info about where to find that data out there somewhere.

FWIW, you could eventually get another chance to complete those challenges with that character. If you complete 85% of the non-DLC/non-map challenge levels (not challenges, but challenge levels) with a character, you'll have the option to reset (ie. clear) the challenge progress for that character (including the DLC and map challenges), and start completing challenges again.

That's not necessarily any easier that doing it with a different character (you have to complete all of the same challenge levels either way). It just means that you don't necessarily have to start a new character just to try to earn that achievement.

However, my concern, if I were you, would be that there was actually something wrong with your old character, and you'd end up running into the same glitch again. With that in mind, if you did do a challenge reset and try to earn the achievement with that character, I would start with the launcher challenges and see if Catch-A-Rocket unlocks.

forget Gibbed, there IS a Challenge Data listing under the Raw tab but you can't edit anything.

and i don't think there's a way with the Profile editor either.
Waste_of_skin Mar 22, 2019 @ 2:32pm
Yeah, I couldn't make any sense of the data, but I got the impression that someone had used Gibbed to fix a challenge, so I thought that it might be possible. But I don't know for sure how they fixed it.

The Profile Editor presumably won't help, since the character challenge progress must be stored in the save files (profile.bin could get huge if it was storing the challenge progress for every character, since you could literally have thousands of characters).
Draekus Mar 22, 2019 @ 3:04pm
well, here's what you don't do. do NOT delete the entry in Challenge Data.

i deleted the entry " Launchers long distance " (or some such) and now Sky Rockets in Flight is not showing up in my Challenge list in-game.

lucky i don't use launchers often.
Waste_of_skin Mar 22, 2019 @ 3:31pm
Interesting. OK. Noted. :happymeat:
