Bordelands 2 (and Pre-Sequel, too) LAN co-op - Family Sharing
Hello everyone!

I'm bumping into troubles while trying to play on a LAN with my brother, who has every Borderlands game (bought with a steam bundle) from the Family Sharing of my library.
Whereas, as for Bordelands 1, we managed to wonderfully play the whole game with DLCs, there seems no way to let the same happen for Bordelands 2 and the Pre-Sequel (which seem to have the same matchmaking characteristics, as I could guess by now). In particular, it's frustrating not to understand why this procedure does NOT work for those two games:
  1. I (the owner) go in offline mode on Steam and launch the game (I am meant to be the host);
  2. he (the person with whom the library is shared) goes online (otherwise he couldn't play the game), and tries to join me (as a guest) starting the game from Steam.

BUT no match can be found.

I've also tried to create a shortcut on the desktop to the ".exe" file on the guest machine putting the address of the host machine at the end of the "Target" field (in "Properies"), so that the guest machine is directly told what host machine refer to for the game. Then, the resulting procedure resulted in:
  1. I (the owner) go in offline mode on Steam and launch the game (I mean to be the host);
  2. he (the person with whom the library is shared) goes online (otherwise he couldn't play the game), and tries to join me (as a guest) launching the game from the shortcut on the desktop.

BUT then another error message tells us that we use "different patches of the game" and so we cannot play together; which is not true, since we both have updated versions (in any case, the number of version is exactly the same, as we can see it in the "Find Game" screen).

Please, any help?
(Buy another copy is not an option as for now)

Try using Gameranger google it, it might require manual port forwarding or if you both have steam why don't you just use it? its P2P so it should work just like you would experience on LAN.

Hi Sam,

thank you for your advices, but they did not seem to work, unfortunately.

I tried to use Gameranger, even port forwarding my router, according to their guide. Nevertheless, I manage to host a game, invite my bro, but then he gets stucked on a "Waiting for host" screen, whereas I am playing. So, nothing different from the previous situation.:steamfacepalm:

I also tried port forwarding Steam Games, Steam Servers and Steam Client to my address, but nothing seems to change relevantly.

I'm about to lose hope...:steamsad:
