But once you get Many Must Fall or Tw0 Fang, he starts to shine. He isn't the best melee, that goes to gaige, but he is 'faster' than gaige and doesn't need to build buffs in order to slaughter. His cunning tree is a great hybrid tree than can support several play styles, and Tw0 fang is a fairly awesome skill to invest in when using a shotty. His sniper tree is somewhat lackluster, as most of his skills are either passive or simply don't work well in the field (the critical stacks fall too quickly).
Zer0 offers some of the highest Damage of all the classes, he just takes a bit more time to get into.
I solo'd Terra as melee Zer0, and solo'd Hyperion with melee as well. I'm sure gee is possible as well, though it might take longer. The Warrior and BNKER are the only two bosses that come to mind as being impossible as melee. Change up your gear or playstyle, and pretty much everything is viable as melee.
2 bosses hardly make up the entire game, when it comes to everything else, melee is fine.
Alternatively go melee with Law for the +100% melee damage (and Order if you so choose) and the Many Must Fall is basically teleportation for short distances garnished with ridiculous damage that never ends once you get the hang of attacking critical spots. You can actually 'dash forward' teleport into the sky after bandits and melee them. Once you get the hang of the general HP of your enemy and can be patient to let the damage build and to know when to strike, you're just an invisible storm of death through towns. Goliaths take 2-3 hits but if you can find a shotgun that does +melee damage, once you nail him with your melee and break stealth you can bury him with the shotgun at that close range.
I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love Zero. I have a siren and she's very -useful- in a team but Zero is just.. fun as hell. So much damage. So much death.
I haven't tried the Cunning tree; I see it as a very poor support tree that does not nearly utilize his full damage capabilities if its invested in primarily. Beside the first three skill tiers, doesn't offer anything exceptional. Once you're level ~40 though of course you're going to be investing in Cunning - you'll have filled out one of the other two trees.
Question:
Does Tw0 Fang apply to melee attacks?
Gotta disagree here. Gaige is it, hands down.
Her Ordered Chaos tree esentially allows you to run right up to any enemy in the game and 1 hit everything, without your shields ever getting dented. The same tree also offers viable boss soloing through Discord and Anarchy stacks. Gaige is a beast.
Tw0 Fang doesn't apply to melee, but I have to disagree with your assumption that Cunning isn't supportive. It works very well for boss fights, the Kunai coupled with the health regen while Deception'ed is enought to keep you alive most fights. Coupled with the damage skills it offers, you have a tree that supports melee in boss fights and gunplay any other time.
Word. I'll check it out now. I'm just now in the level ranges to be able to invest in it while keeping my main tree filled. That sounds great.. health regen while deceptioned would be excellent.
Edit: Kind of wish i'd saved those Cunning type class mods now. Hmm. Going to respec anyways, want to see how deadly those kunai are.
