Tundra Express : Mighty Morphin major glitch

Playing as assassin doing Mighty Morpin task I have killed the Mutated varkid ,however the sample has fallen in an out of bounds area up on an unreachable point.I left the area hoping it would show up on the map somewhere else but on return the sample is no longer on the upper shelf or anywhere else on the tundra map . Any suggestions please , is it possible to restart mission ?.

you could backup the game and not save so you can rekill the varkid

Since BL2 is known for some game breaking, save affecting glitches most people have been in the habbit of backing up their WillowGame folder from time to time.

I'm still not sure how restarting the game didn't fix your issue. Have you tried doing that AND mutating another Varkid pod, or did you just go looking for the piece that already dropped?

The only option I am given is to " pick up the mutated varkid sample" .I have tried mutating another , no good .

Ah, I see what the issue is. I always thought the quest was buggy because I'd kill one, pick up the thing, kill another, pick up the thing, kill another, etc. And then see I was 3/4 thinking "Didn't I kill four of those guys already? That's a weird issue, not sure how to remedy. Submit a ticket to gearbox?

Have you actually tried going to a pod and pressing "Use", or were you just looking for that tooltip "Infect" (or whatever)?
Because I've heard that some people got the problem that there was no hint, but they could infect the pods without problems...

Tried that a dozen times , on approach or contact with a pod there is no action to let you infect again .

Welp, sounds like you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
The quest is split into two parts, one part being infecting the first pod and killing the hatching varkid. Upon picking up the sample, it switches to the second part, in which you have to mutate, kill and loot 4 more varkids.
Since you never picked up the first sample, you're still stuck there, and apparently can't infect any more pods.

Solutions: Try to come back later, maybe it'll work again (though unlikely)
Join somebody who's doing this quest in Multiplayer to complete it.

just join the random player through matchmaking, go through their quest log as soon as you join and see if they have the quest available. ask them if they wanna do the quest first. that's how I fixed my last glitch.
