WASD Keys not functioning
I realize that this will probably be better handled by 2K support, but I'm going to throw it up here anyway. Maybe someone here has seen it.

When I first installed BL2 on launch day, I had a problem with movement keys once the opening cinematic had finished. I was able to jump, open menus, and other things, but WASD did not move the character. I was also unable to switch to the Steam Overlay. I closed and reopened the game several times, and had the same problem. After a reboot, the issue seemed to have resolved itself. Relief ensued.

However, due to some other issues, I had to recently reformat my Windows 7 Ultimate PC. After getting the OS up and running, I first installed my video card drivers (GTX 550 Ti) and mouse drivers (Logitech Performance MX). ONce all the drivers were working and Windows updates finished, I installed Steam and downloaded BL2, Torchlight 2 and L4D2 (the games I'm currently playing most often). There were no problems during the install of any of the games.

However, the movement problem has returned, with a vengeance. I can again load the game with no apparent problem, except that the Steam Overlay will not come up. Once I've loaded one of my two characters, I am unable to move. I can jump, switch weapons, zoom, fire, melee, open menus, and everything else I've tried, except move using WASD. I did spawn next to a fast-travel point, and I was able to use it to travel to other points on the map, but once I am there, I'm stuck.

Now, for the troubleshooting steps: Remembering that I had this issue before, I rebooted the PC. This did not help. I did it a few more times to be sure, still nothing. I verified the cache on the game a couple times, the first time producing an error. Once the error was gone, however, the problem persisted. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, to no avail. I uninstalled and reinstall Steam, then the game, still no-go. I have repaired and reinstalled DirectX and .Net 4, nothing. I have removed the mouse and keyboard, and plugged in others, nothing. I have removed Logitech SetPoint (I really thought I had it that time), but no. I've checked for updates to my video card drivers, mouse and keyboard (Rosewill RK-9000), PhysX updates, Windows updates, Steam updates, and everything else I can think of. I tried re-mapping the movement keys to the arrows, but these too were not functioning. All so far has been for naught.

On a side note, the other two games I have installed - Torchlight 2 and L4D2 - both have similar but different issues. The mouse buttons cannot function in the menu of TL2. In L4D2, once I get into the game, my view shoots up to the top and spins uncontrollably. If I attempt to move, it shoots to the bottom and spins again. These may or may not be related to the BL2 issue, though I can't help but think they are.

Because my other Steam games have problems, I can't help but think this is a Steam issue, but I've tried everything in that arena I can conjure up.

Aside from wiping my PC again and trying once more from scratch, my bag of tricks is running mighty dry. Any help would be vastly appreciated.

Please tell me you were able to find a solution for this issue. I am unable to play this game. From the moment I meet the clap trap and he tells me to follow him I am stuck. What is really strange is that the keys are responsive in the key assignment menu. I can remap them all I want, but once I get back into the game they no longer respond.

I had the same problem, just got it working. In this case, there was an external program interfering. I use remote keyboard & mouse software like Synergy and Splashtop (Or VNC, TeamViewer, etc) to control the computer remotely, but they got in the way. Disabling those has fixed the problem for me.

That solved it. I use Synergy to control a Linux box and my gaming PC with the same keyboard. Even though the Synergy client was closed, the server was still running. Once I disabled the server, my keys are working fine.

I did find a solution. Turns out I had a bad driver from a Griffin Powermate installed, and somehow it borked all the USB drivers. I uninstalled all USB drivers in Computer Management, then Detected Hardware Changes and let Windows install all the defaults. Then everything worked.

Man. THANK YOU. This problem has been annoying me for a while. At first I thought it was just Bioshock Infnite that was having the problem. But then it started having problems in other games and I knew it was something about my computer. I had synergy installed and hadn't even thought about it.

Synergy was the problem for me as well.

I realize that this thread is old, but this problem is awful, and I've recently been having the same problem.
All I had to do was change the game's compatibility settings to Windows XP, and the issue was resolved.

Software KVMs like Synergy are the issue. Once disabled, the game works fine.
