I only use my controller when I'm doing basic farming runs, like trying to get a Tiny Tina Class Mod from the special chests.
Honestly though, whatever you're more comfortable using is what's better.
Borderlands is one of the games I still play with mouse, I need the fast aim and the crazy freedom to perform spins and movements.
In every other way, Mouse/Keyboard is superior.
Some of the superior attributes include aim accuracy and movement, additional buttons for commands/abilities, easier to navigate game menus, and being able to directly select another weapon without having to use a cumbersome wheel or scroll-through setup.
And, when I speak of "aim accuracy and movement", I'm referring to the ability for mouse users to very quickly turn 180 degrees and still be able to accurately make headshots right afterwards. None of that slow turning and aim assist stuff controller users have to deal with.
Personally, the only advantage I can see to a keyboard are more buttons. Yes, controllers suck at aiming which is why I can't understand why a controller/mouse combination goes over people's heads.
That's not true. Circle-straffing was invented using keyboard/mouse. That's been a tactic we old school gamers have used since Doom.
So, do you put "jump" as the click on the control thumbstick? That sounds terribly awkward to me.
And, what do you do about crouch?
I mean, normal movement with a keyboard takes 3 fingers. Thumb for jump. Pinky for run or crouch. You can't do all of that with 1 thumbstick.
I believe that was covered by my "Analog movement" comment above.
Although, I have seen some very good Keyboard/Mouse racers.
I used to use a Trackman from 1998-2008. Then, I accidently left it somewhere on a trip and bought a Razer Lachesis to replace it. I'll never go back to trackballs again... The optical mouse's accuracy and comfort are so much greater imo.
