Any point in farming for guns in normal mode?

Hey all,

Topic says it all. Just got this game and if it were not for shift codes then I would be a bit out of luck for gun drops. I have notoriously bad luck but I am willing to farm it out. I have read that there be no reason to farm for weapons in HM mode. Truth or false? If false then I am open to suggestions. Thanks.

Not really, at least not till you kill the Warrior, then yea, won't hurt to do so to help out in True Vault Hunter, but I'd use the keys sparinglyat first, better for later levels when gun damage really starts taking a change.

It's usually not worth it. You could spend hours farming the same boss for a specific weapon that will likely be useless 5 levels later. On normal mode I generally do specific side quests for unique reward items (blue's with red text) that I know will be useful. At level ~9 I'll grab the Lascaux from Frostburn Cavern. At level ~14 I'll get a Teapot from Tiny Tina, at ~15 I'll get Moxxi's Heartbreaker, at ~16 there's Law, Triquetra at ~18...
If you let me know what level you're at or what main story mission you're currently doing I could provide a short list of quests and their rewards which might help you.

Since you can easily run through TVHM using only quest rewarded weapons, the only thing you really need to keep an eye out for in Normal and TVHM are Class Mods. Best place to farm those is Zed's Vending Machines.

I farmed doctors orders loot midgets in normal for about an hour so the new characters I made had some cool gear to grow into, which made the second half of normal a cakewalk. But if you aren't planning on making more characters and giving them hand-me-downs then nah.

Thanks for every ones advice. I ran the loot midgets for doctors orders a few times and nothing dropped. I did farm the snot out of slappy. He dropped a few versions of the legendary shotgun. I am currently lvl 25 clkworks.

Morning Star (sniper rifle) ~ lvl 24 by doing Hyperioin Contract 873 at the Overlook bounty board
Evil Smasher (Assault Rifle) ~ lvl 25 for doing The Chosen One for Marcus (Takes you to Sawtooth Cauldron)
Dahlminator (e-tech pistol) ~ lvl 28 by doing "The Lost Treasure" found in Sawtooth Cauldron and ends in Caustic Caverns
The above two quests can be started when you do "Toil and Trouble" which is a story mission that takes you to Swatooth Cauldron. Visit Marcus to get Chosen One before leaving Sanctuary and find The Lost Treasure Quest in Sawtooth.

Fibber (pistol) at ~ lvl 27 in Eridium Blight by doing "A Real Boy" quest given by Mal an Hyperion Loader
Lady Fist or Tidal Wave at ~ lvl 28 by doing "Uncle Teddy" found at Fyrestone Bounty Board in Arid Nexus
You can also try to get a Bone Shredder which drops (sometimes) from Bone Head 2 while in Arid Nexus

Dahlminator takes a while to get but it's worth it. Lady Fist and Tidal Wave are both good weapons as well, you choose one or the other at the end of the mission. Fibber specs on the card are "fibs", so try the gun before tossing it.

If you have the Torgue DLC, you can always use some Torgue Tokens. Good advice above though. Some of the blues are amazing. Depending on your class, the Fibber could also be a good choice. Comes from the Real Boy mission line in Eridium Blight. "Redundant" is the best prefix.

The Striker es an amazing shotgun, I've finished my Zero normal playthough with a Striker lv.20...and I've got yesterday a lv.45 on my TVHM run and I am bouncing with joy, because it will bring me to warrior easily.

I need to farm one of these when we get level 72.

A low level logans gun might be worth farming if you want "free" rockets with an abosorb shield, and at later levels it won't kill you.

I agree. It is a sweet gun but I actually got a better one from a golden key use. I enjoy farming slappy. Can't wait to farm him on TVHM and beyond....lol.

Ok all. After playing the tarnation out of this game I must say, it is very much worth farming guns/shield on normal mode. I used the shock version of the sniper from Mobley and a gun from Gettle up until a short while ago. I'm in TVHM now and used it to defeat Doc Mercy a few times. The bee shield is an absolute must. I still use it. I admit, I have to be crafty and move around a lot but still. That dag on shield, even nerfed, is amazing. I still use the b* I got from BNK3R. And I am now level 41 in TVHM and I just got the Hellfire from Scorch. Yowsa, that thing is a beast. It really eats up Doc Mercy. I use the geiser to hop up on the rocks beside where Doc Mercy spawns, I pop the auto turret on the wall and let it distract the good Doc then I just burn him down with that Hellfire. I just want to see what that infinity gun looks like. I have read that it might not even drop under level 50 in TVHM. So many rumors on that one.

I would say I used the Shock Veruc from Mobley from level 30-40 and i'm sure I will use it again. That gun is just amazing.

Just got the infinity pistol from Doc Mercy. Only took about 3 kills this morning. About 20+ last night. So it does drop below level 50 in TVHM.

Soon as I posted this, I decided to try it out on Doc Mercy......he dropped another one, much higher stats. Go figure. So I have an extra one......

Easiest gun to farm on normal mode is the Maggie in The Dust. I got it from a loot box today :D
