Edit: I wouldn't suggest removing the battery while playing, if that is what you're suggesting. They aren't made to be frequently removed, and for a majority of laptops removing the battery opens the laptop up to the risk of getting dirt/dust in the connectors.
I think the term is called 'drip-charging' or also known as 'over-charging'
Because my battery is in-built, I just remove the AC plug every hour and a bit and let the battery drain if I plan on gaming longer than 15 hours, which is very rare (try not to let it get down too low, as 'apparently' that also lowers battery life. Although I have an older laptop which I let drain and the battery capacity is still above 98% of it's original spec (which is normal).
