What is the best solo class

Depends entirely on your play-style. If you're a casual gamer, I recommend Mechromancer or Commando. If you're really good at these types of games I recommend Psycho or Assassin. Somewhere in between... Siren or Gunzerker.

I would have to say Commando because of the turret he can put down. The game is really meant to be played with at least one other person though!

I am not a fan of the assassin. Siren is fun but you definately need some ability points into certain skills before she is player friendly. Commando, mechro or psycho (depending on playstyle) easiest for solo. I have no clue about zerker.

Just started the psycho playthru, i have also found him a lot easier to play with then the other characters, but when you have a buddy playing the gunzerker/psycho combo is amazing

Borderlands 2 is all about enjoying the progression of your character. Each class can be tuned thorugh skills and such to be good at solo playthroughs, but if you enjoy a more run and gun then gunzerker is probably for you, whereas if you enjoy silently killing off enemies from up close and personal or way off in the distance then assassin is a good option.

Thing about the psycho is he plays totally different than the other 5 characters by a fair amount. You want totally different gear with him, you have to develope different habbits, etc.. Imo once you hit 61 and start doing UVHM a 61 Pyscho is a hell of alot of fun and the funnest char imo. Everyone is different though. But don't let people fool you into shying away from the Pyscho if you don't enjoy melle. He is not all melle, he actually only has one melle tree. Most people who main him that I do raid bosses/play with myself including never melle. Hell we only use the action skill to run fast with when we are out of combat. We go Bloodlust/Hellborn which is all about gun/fire elemental dmg and huge buffs/dmg reduction on top of huge healing. He absolutely rapes stuff and is a blast to play. Like I said he is different than the rest though. For a first timer and someone not use to games like this or BL in general I recommend the Commando or Siren. I think they are the easiest to solo with for first timers and they to equally well in coop. The Siren is especially desireable playing with friends being she is the only class that can heal and revive other people. Just figure out what kinda playstyle you wanna do and roll with it. Watch some youtube gameplay videos of each class. There are tons of them out there. The two funnest chars though once you are use to everything for me is Psycho followed by Mechro/Siren at a tie for second. Enjoy and goodluck.

I played most of the characters, and I played the most on teh assassin, so I think he would probably be my favorite. Now if you mean best as in most over powered I have no idea.

Why? My main (read : for solo play) class is Zer0 and at level 54 I still wreck through everyone, melee or sniping. I find him awesome and playing solo just means ennemies don't run everywhere while I snipe or try to get them in a straight line to B0re the life out of them.

More on-topic, if you want to just tear through ennemies while closing your eyes and get bored easily just pick the Gunzerker. He's like ultra-easy mode.
Krieg for a different experience, awesome but changes the gameplay a bit so it's probably not the best to start.
Siren is more of a coop character where she can heal others by shooting them, revive them from a distance and such.

I think all the others would be perfect for a first solo run (Zer0, Gaige, Axton). I'd suggest to look at their skill trees to make your own opinion though.

A. Don't hold your breath for an answer since this topic is over 6 months old.
B. With how much this game has changed over it's lifespan, he could in all honesty have a completely different opinion by now.
