Does it ever get boring?
Does it ever? There's a Deal on Amazon that's pretty amazing right now and i'm tempted to get on it but even at 21 bucks or so I'm wondering if this will be one of those games I have fun playing once and then forget about soon afterward, or if this will be a classic

I was dubious about buying it - not knowing anything about it beforehand the screenshots and videos made it look a bit linear and bland. I was like "sure, I'll buy it and it'll probably be fun but it'll never be up there with my favorite games like Portal." I was wrong. It was really unenjoyable at first up to about level 13, until I realized how wrong I was playing it (not doing sidequests, not using the action skill and sticking with level 5 weapons) Now I have 300 hours on it and I've completed the main story 7 times. The writing is genius and so the story is immensely replayable for me. Borderlands 2 is undoubtedly one of the best games I have ever played. That said, to each their own - time consuming RPGs aren't for everyone. Also the game can be a bit glitchy and sloppily made in places, but its good aspects outweigh all that, and players of Skyrim etc won't mind. Unless you despise RPGs I would really recommend playing this game.

Borderlands 2 gets boring after a while IF you don't play with friends. Playing with friends = more longevity and fun

Hell no. I'm almost 200 hours in with ONE CHARACTER, Salvador. I haven't even touched the others except a short romp with the two DLC characters before I went back to Sal.

I agree that the start is very slow, but it picks up rapidly once you gain entrance to the main hub of the game (Sanctuary). Then you can truly start going about your business doing Side Missions and not having to follow the Main story as blindly. You gain a lot more freedom.

Speak for yourself. I have 70 hours logged and only about 2 hours of that is co-op.

Personally I found BL1 better because it was all about the fun and freedom to blow bandits and monsters to little pieces. BL2 is basically the same as all of the other shooters out there. They have tried to make it challenging, and thus ******* it up.
It's not the same as all the other shooters because it's not linear like some other shooters are, it has great humour and characters which a lot of other shooters don't have, it has rpg elements, it has co-op... You get the idea.

Not at all... as I said before, almost 120 hours and maybe 2 or 3 of coop and my sister maybe has 3 or 4 hours of coop and she's over 300 hours solo. But some people find more enjoyment from solo than coop and vice versa. It depends on the person. I think BL2 does an amazing job of allowing both types of players to enjoy their game.

It hasn't gotten boring for me yet! If you love scrounging for loot, then you'll have plenty of fun.

After 550+ logged hours in the Borderlands. Sure, you'll get bored. You won't feel like you didnt' get your money's worth tho.

This. After 15 hours, I sure felt like I got my money worth, even though I bought it for both me and a friend. And the Season Pass. And the two classes (although got those for me only).

There are very few games that give you such a lengthy and funny story for $22. And that's just the main story. The DLC's that are included in the price will just keep making it worth it.

Bottom line is, if you're hesitating, you're absolutely wrong.

Just gonna say that this game is defintely not everyone's cup of tea. But for those who enjoy it, they REALLY enjoy it, spending hundreds of hours on it. Sometimes you gotta take a leap of faith. If you are still on the fence about it, then keep waiting for those sales: the less money you spend on something you don't enjoy, the less it is going to hurt.

Well I spent about 200 hours on the original Borderlands. If this even lasts half that time, it's money well spent.

since I have both now, should I play the first one before the second one or?
I kind of understand the general concern with this game getting boring. Unless you're playing with friends, the gameplay can get stale. I take my time working on a character, and so far love Krieg, but what happens when you're character becomes maxed out? You can work on more, but what if you had every character maxed out? The best gear, the best builds, etc.? Then again, one must keep in mind that this is a concern with any RPG type game that revolves around gear-hunting. Farming is part of the fun at times really, that satisfaction of getting that item finally. Also this game isn't nearly as funny if you don't get the references, altough there's so many you'd be hard pressed to not at least understand a few.
