It depends on your play style. If you're going to be your co-op group's mvp, you probably want the team-healing, enemy-freezing Siren. If you plan on doing solo play most of the time, Commando is better since with the right upgrades, you can have two turrets with rocketlaunchers and chain guns. That's five guns on the field- in single player. Siren is the support class, Commando's turrets can help you if you don't have a co-op partner. Hope this helps.

Once hit past level 54, a Ruin-Coverge-Elate-Sustance Siren build can be just as surviable as commando in solo play...if you are willing to grind a bit more.

what build would be best for survivabilty and damage?

See if this build works for you. It is not the highest DPS build for Siren, but it is a rather balanced build between DPS and surviviability.

Build order was left tree first, right tree second, middle tree last...which is why I said this requires level 54 at least to work.

For tweaking, if you are really focused on soloing, you can swap the point from Res to Sweet Release or Elate in the middle. If you somehow have a Legendary Siren Class mode, swap one point from Ward to Accelerate on the left. Restoration is bugged in such that it can heal the enemy in some cases so that is why I avoid it.

The probelm with Commando surviability on level 50+ is that the turret health does not scale and rabids can take it down just as fast as you throw it...which Siren phaselock can resolve without issue.

One more thing...don't try this with a bee shield (unless you are sniping far far away with the phaselock-through-the-scope trick). Find a good adaptive shield instead.

I havent played Siren so cant comment on her. I am a lvl 53 commando and there have been times I am overwhelmed or about to die and I toss my turret down and its like having atleast one more person on the field or if I want to run through a section for some fetch mission, I drop the turrent let it distract the enemy while I just run past and grab the mission item.

If Commando's turrets has enough health to hold level 50+ rabids and Normad heavy gunners at bay with the longbow upgrade in UVHM, I would recommand it 100% over Siren for surviability. But now the cup is more like half full for both characters.

But if you really want tanking, Sal's Brawn tree build plus Rubi pistol blows both character away.

No. Siren is the worse class to farm bosses since all bosses are immune to phase lock.

I haven't been using Commando to farm bosses, so I can't comment on that.

The best class to farm boss IMO are Gunzerker and Assassins. Except Assassins are very very weak against mobs.

Edit: This is just a comment on the usefulness of character abilities in a boss fight. All characters are ultra strong against bosses if you can find the right gear combo in the first place.

At level 61 I find myself lacking a bit of damage compared to my friends Siren.

That's on UVHM by the way.
All numbers and damage below is on slagged enemies just to note it.
I feel more like a support character now with my turrets holding aggro on mobs while he dishes out damage with crits of around 3000k most of the time. Though It's awesome to see my friend chopping their health bars down that fast I can get a little nagged about it at times xD

Damage in my case:
If everything is perfect I'll crit between 300k-700k with my Vladof sniper. My turrets crit slag enemies for around 40k with each bullet. The rocket pods do around 120k each when critting.

I don't know. Maybe I'm better at sustainable damage...

OR

Maybe my build just plainly suck.
Anyways. I just wanted to share my current experience.

Best of regards! :D:
