The best shield for mid-to-late UVHM?
I'm Level 61, having beaten the Wildlife Preserve story mission, and I'm getting to the point where my Lvl 55 Bee is too weak. I need something better...

See, I've always loved the Bee so far because it made killing everything easier. It still does, but it's weak and breaks easily. And it just seems that anything else just makes killing...anything really...take too long. But I need to survive, and if that means leaving the Bee behind, so be it. But which shield is generally the "best" for this point onward? What should I look for?

Really depends on your character and playstyle, but everyone really should carry multiple shields for different occasions. Some of my personal favorites are Hide of Terramorphous, Transformer, Antagonist, Black Hole and Blockade. Flame of the Firehawk also works extremely well with certain character specs.

Depends in your build and class.

To add some options to NewTroll's: The Sham, Evolution or a purple adaptative shield, Rough Rider, etc.
It's my Siren, who is now 62. I originally wanted her to heal the party (and still do later on), but as I level on my own since it seems I can never find groups that match my point, I'm going with a Phaselock spam build that causes all sorts of elemental damage as it locks enemies. Works well but I fear the lack of damage the Bee gives will be an issue, especially later as I hit the Eridium Blight and on...

not sure of your playstyle, but the ones that work best at keeping me out of FFYL are, in no particular order:
Absorb shield (purple or Sham if you can get it), Adaptive (Neogenator or purple- they can add health, too), Antagonist (buy with Seraph crystals in Tiny Tina), Hoplite for heavy heavy fire (seraph crystals in Torgue), Black Hole (or purple nova shield - but not as helpful) and Cracked Sash (you just have to find it - pretty rare. Can substitute with the generic "Shield" that is a fairly common find - they have really short recharge delay and incredibly quick Recharge rate. Do not confuse these with the "Quick Shield". They're crap. )

The Bees are nice for the weapons buff, but it's of no use 98% of the time because any stray bullet nullifies its buff and you still have to shoot things until it recharges. So since you're almost always shooting without the buff anyway, you're better off with a shield that keeps you standing while you shoot.

i've been playing the siren since the game was released -- have dedicated almost 1400 hours to the game and for me - personally - the bee shield is still my go to shield . i keep a sham and an antagonist around for certain situations. The bee is still useful - you just have to adapt - keep moving - don't sit still. Without it i cannot kill the fast moving enemies quickly enough to avoid being overwhelmed and , ultimately, just repeatedly dying in the upper levels.

I just use the bee shield to farm bosses.
When I'm healing with my siren I switch out to a different shield.

Same here, 1,100 hours and I use the Bee exclusively with all six of my capped classes (72). I am well aware of the builds regarding each character, (Sham, Hoplite, Love Thumper, Rough Rider, ect.) but I just love the gaming dynamic of the Bee. I admit I am a Bee wh*re.

Build geeks will ramble on about how the use of this shield is a cheap tactic (unbalanced) but I absolutely love the DPS the Bee unloads. I am completely aware of better builds and I have used them infinitum. I simply choose not to, and the results speak for themselves.

Depends on what you're specced into and how you play. But for close quarters I suggest an antagonist, sham, cracked sash (not the greatest but it recharges so quickly you'll have the shield up more often than not) maybe a hide of terra or rough rider. For long range a decent amp shield or a bee. (even your level 55 one should do the trick if you snipe a lot). A fabled turtle shield is also pretty good or a hoplite if you're long range. It'll soak up any bullets that manage to hit you and you're probably not going to have the shield down if only a few bullets are managing to reach you. I think a general all around good shield for multiple rages of combat would be the antagonist or rough rider because those are my favorites at the moment. But there are plenty of good choices out there. I actualy have some spare level 61-68ish gear if you want it.
I could use some if you'd like to clear some space, it would help as I get to Level 72.

Yeah I'll add you right now. I'm about to hop on BL2 right now anyway so might as well drop off some loot to someone who will use it :P
