Is there a point in doing optional objectives?

I don't recall any optional objectives coninciding with badass challenges.

There is a Challenge tied to clearing Optional Objectives, and a Challenge tied to clearing other challenges

No you have more chances to pick up "white,green,purple etc." loot more chests, and all the other stuff that lets you get BADASS points.
You get points for killing in daylight & night time.
The number of rounds you have shot.

Just take a look at the list, the more area you cover the more chances of achiving BADASS points.

That's the thing though. Some optional ones require you to go out of your way to complete them. If it's not required and it's somewhat of a hassle, I don't want to do it unless there's a benefit. I find increasing the chances of a better roll to be more fun, if that was the case.

All given objectives have a reward for completeing the mission, as you get the OPTIONAL missions check whats being given as a reward, if you don't care for that reward then go to the missions screen and tag that mission "IGNORE" I think it is.
And it won't show up any more.

I"m not referring to optional missions, I'm referring to optional objectives within the missions. You know how objectives have a checkbox? Optional ones have a + sign next to the box IIRC. For example, there's that one mission where you have to kill 5 assasins and the optional objective is to kill them with a specfic weapon.

Ohh, Well the OPTIONAL OBJECTIVES just give BADASS points. and those STEAM achievment things.

i dont know for sure but i think it increases your chance of each assassin dropping their unique weapon if you kill them the correct way. they drop judge, tre dog, fremington edge and commerce all blue weapons

Optional Objectives can give better Mission Rewards. Better XP, money, and/or items. An example would be the Hyperian Mission to kill 100 bandits. Kill at least 20 with a certain element, it increases the chances for a better sniper rifle. Kill at least 20 with another element, even better odds for better stats. Kill at least 20 more with a different element, even better chances, etc... So if you're trying for say a Slag Morningstar, you'll have better luck by doing the objectives.
