Shift codes ruining the game ?
I played BL2 on Xbox360 and now, when I see the GOTY edition on sale on Steam I bought it and I'm enjoying the game all over again with Mechromancer. ... But those Shift codes. Using the sticked theme in this discussion board, I found codes (I even missed that 20 golden keys code by a couple of minutes) I added them in the game and withou any effort I have over 90 golden keys. ... And it is just my impression, or using them will instantly remove one of the games best things and that is loot and the joy when really good gun or shiled drops ? ... What is now the point of searching lockers, collecting loot, when you can have those awesome purple items "for free" ?

After using like 10 of them I forbid myself to use them, because to joy for the game was gone. ... After I sell those purple Items and starter almost from the scratch againg, the game was suddenly again amazing.

I can imagine, that thanks to not good loot sharing system in multiplayer, this helps to avoid rages, when your teammember picks all the good stuff and nothing is left for you.

Golden Keys are really only good for your first two, maybe three, playthroughs and completely worthless endgame. They help out alot in a jam early on, but otherwise have very little impact on the game over-all.

Er, no, they don't ruin anything. You could have 255 keys, the limit before rolling over, and never use any. If you don't like the free Purple/ETech Loot, then don't punch in the codes, don't use the keys, and get all your loot the normal way.

Seriously, don't like it? Don't use it.
+1
Besides most of the keys will gain you rubbish items, you need lots of keys to get a decent item from the :vaultkey:

guns in the golden chest are meaningless they do not affect the game.

i used over 30 keys so far and only item im using from all that is a rocket launcher. you dont get jack sqaut really. just a good item for your level to start with but you can find better items just by going about the story

Purple weapons are not rubbish! i got a level 28 ravager shotgun from a chest, and are still using it at lv 42!!!! dont usually use shotties but love this one, hope i can get at a higher level one somewhere, better then any cc or shottie ive used so far (and that includes butchers)

Yoy can do what wvwe you, if you dont want the keys you dont need to do anything!

So somehow you started the game and then with no input from you, your avitar went to the chest and opened it up and forced the item into your equipped slot and you had to use it to play? I never had that issue.

I love Ravager shotguns! A level 42 Ravager would be a lot better for you, though. The Torgue DLC is great for the Torgue vending machines which have (purple) Ravager shotties.

So don't use them.

They are nice when bringing up a low level character

The codes give you weapons/shields and other useful stuff, but it's no different than going into the world and finding a chest that luckily gives you a few purple items.

I know if it wasn't for the shift codes, my Mecromancer wouldn't have got her foot in the door in TVHM.
The weapons I got from it allowed me to get a foothold and from there, managed to have a ton of fun in TVHM.

I'm not sure how it could break the game when the items you get aren't world endingly awesome even at a high level.
Well, okay, the sniper rifle/machine gun hybrid is awesome for Zer0.

I disagree that the chest doesn't drop good loot, it does, it just isn't too common.
And of the few orange weapons I've found in the game, the Infinity pistol is the only one I'd ever consider always using. :)

Well I just want to clarify, if they don't have any other purpose that is hidden from me at the moment :)

So they make the game easier, but you don't have to use them if you don't want to. Is that it ?

As far as I see it purple weapons are inferior to the "good" weapons in the game. The "good" weapons are available at level 50+ (many would say max level) before that its just grinding your character to max level and here the shift codes make your life easier and the leveling up faster by providing good level-equivalent gear.

Seriously.....if you level up your mechromancer and find a really good drop at level 15......you ll have it outleveled an hour later. With a shift code you dont even think about it just punch in the next one and hand your old item down to an alt.
davidb11 13/fev./2014 às 10:07
To be fair, level 50+ is hardly what I'd call the era of good weapons.
Any weapon that can carry you through a decent part of the game without needing to upgrade it is a good weapon.
People seem to think the game was meant for UVHM and the OP levels, but it was originally made for normal and TVHM.
The UVHM Touhou level insanity, :P and the OP were afterthoughts. :)

Also, if all you're doing it grinding characters to max level, you're playing the game in a really weird way in my opinion.
The game is meant to be played to shoot enemies, and enjoy collecting loot, doing more and more crazier things as you get more powerful, grinding to the max level, and not taking the time to enjoy the game seems to be rather weird to me.

It's like leveling to 99 in Diablo II before you beat Baal in Hell, it's not needed.

Do these shift codes expire or anytihng like that? I've been finishing the story on BL1 before I started 2, will they still work fine for me when I finish 1 and start playing 2?
Xerolith 13/fev./2014 às 11:45
I just went to the Wiki a few days ago, and input all the codes I could find there, and ended up with 54 Golden Keys now. So I think a lot of them still work currently. Here is the page I used, though I am not sure if its the most updated or accurate. I got my codes from here: http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/SHiFT

I use the keys once in a while every few levels for my friend and myself, if we have not got a decent upgrade in a while. (we are low level still, around 15 lol)
