They aren't infinite. Once they've been redeemed a number of times, the individual codes stop working. So have fun picking through the white and green trash that nobody wants.

The generator creates an endless amount of QR codes. You are correct in saying the redemption amount is limited but not the QR codes that can be generated. I have confirmed that the generator gives at least blue rarity.

Aww. I should have expected this to come, but I imagine it would have been more entertaining heading out to Best Buy or Target and scanning codes hoping for an interesting drop.

Sadly, I don't own a smart phone. Just an old flip phone, so I can't take place in the whole event, randomly from my computer screen or wandering around my apartment snapping everything I have.
