[Linux] Can't connect to Gearbox Shift

I have bought both Borderlands 2 and TPS for Linux and both games fail to authenticate with Gearbox Software Shift so I can't redeem the Shift codes. My network connection is fine (wired, VDSL connection) and I have all updates installed.

I don't use a network proxy and everything else in the game is working fine. It's also not a DNS lookup failure since wireshark tells me that lookups are made for account.services.gearbox.com and cdn.services.gearbox.com - but I don't see any packages going to these IPs.

The game caches are verified.

Is this a problem on my end or a general problem Linux users currently experience? Any ideas what I could try to solve this issue? :/
I'm on openSUSE Linux 13.1, 64 bits using an NVidia GeForce GTX 760.

The path to the SSL certificates are hardcoded for Ubuntu (I think), so you might have to set up some kind of redirection to where the certificates etc are located in OpenSUSE.

Thank you for the hint. I've set some symlinks, but that didn't work. I thought it might be a problem with the file endings (certificates in Ubuntu end with .crt, in openSUSE they end with .pem) so I tried extracting all certificates from the Ubuntu packages and placing them into the typical Ubuntu location - but that didn't work either :(

I'm no linux expert or anything, I've played around with it a little but I'm not using it as my main operating system on anything. My impresion anyways is that people often have some trouble with SHIFT codes on Linux, but they're looking into it, but I doubt we'll get a fix in 2014..... I soloed a character recently up to 72 without any keys so it's not a neccessity.

Sudo ln -s /etc/ssl /usr/lib/ssl

and a Steam restart fixed it wonderfully ;)
