And for your 2nd question robots are weak to corrosion or corrosive elemental damage.Some robots may have a shield before their armor.Robots always have armor as their main health bar,non-elemental has reduced damage on it,fire has little to no dmg,shock doesn't work well,explosives can get the job done but not very well,corrosion however wrecks them.
armor = yellow HP bar (weak to corrosive)
shield = blue bar above the HP bar (weak to shock)
there are some exceptions, like shields with elemental resistance (on higher difficulty levels) or some mobs having some elemental resistance in general (like corrosive skag is almost immune to corrosive damage)
there are also some mobs with some reflective surfaces (for example, Nomads with huge spiked shields), but in these cases, explosive works
Proper Boss class enemies have a red bar at the top of the screen, but this means nothing, as there are Armored Bosses, but their bar is still red.
When you aim at an enemy, you'll see something like... "Bullymong 11" and a red bar. In that particular case, it would a Level 11 Bullymong, and it is a Flesh enemy.
Yes, you break their Shield before you can damage them, which is just how it works for you.
Only thing not mentioned is that some bosses when shielded reflect your bullets back at you, you have to use shock to lower their shield or shoot them only in their weak spots when their shield is lowered.
Blue=Shield.
Blue+red=Flesh enemy with a shield.
Yellow=Armored enemy.
Yellow+blue=Armored enemy with a shield.
If you don't see a blue bar then the enemy is unshielded,
Some enemies have shields with resistance to a certain element and in OP levels a shield that adpats to the last element hit by ( adaptive shield),however does not adapt to shock.Some enemies also have resistance to elements or even immunity with their health bar,like a fire skag,shows red bar but completely or almost immune to fire and so forth.Understand now?
