Bad Hair Day - Can't pick up fur

I don't know what I am doing wrong. I am on the quest to get 4 samples fo bullymong fur. I kill the bullymong, melee-style using the V key. The creature is dead...and nothing. No fur. Pressing E picks up nothing, the counter never moved from 0.

What am i doing wrong?

The fur will be a separate item lying on the ground by/under the bullymong, with the usual light blue line coming up from it that you get for mission items. If you've accepted the mission and you're killing the bullymongs with melee, I don't know why you're not seeing the fur. Where are these bullymongs?

Windshear Waste. Between Claptraps Place and Southern Shelf. I even get the transmitted comment from Sir Hammerlock to finish the Bullymong with a melee weapon. Nothing.
Restarted and tried again. Nothing.

Have you tried reloading? The game seems to have plenty of bugs which get fixed after reloading.

Is that where Knuckledragger spawns? Maybe try the Southern Shelf. There are a couple of areas where Bullymongs spawn.

POSSIBLE SPOILER:
In Liars Berg itself and the area just west of Boom Bewms spawn point have a few Bullymong spawn points. Or further west past the elevated shack and the small bandit encampment.

Now that you mention it, I seem to recall that that area didn't "work". There's only Knuckledragger and the small bullymong, and I seem to recall being there once (maybe farming KD) while I had that mission open, and tried killing the small mong with melee and got the message from Hammerlock, but there was no fur to collect. It was no big deal, since I knew I could get it elsewhere.

Try the bullymongs in Southern Shelf, or Southern Shelf Bay, or Three Horns - Divide. Any of those should work.

Yeah, as mentioned, for some reason that area does not work for that quest. In the area just before you pass through the door for the Symbiosis quest and just after the door, those Bulymongs will give you fur.
