Shift-Codes not getting added (while not having 250+)
This is the explaination, that worked, wich i received from the Gearbox support:

Hey there,

First of all, sorry about the issues you're having with this. Before I go further into this, I want you to know that your codes for Golden Keys are being accepted, so don't worry, you're not going to miss out on anything.

As Borderlands 2 stands right now, there is a soft cap of 255 Golden Keys. What I mean by "Soft cap" is if you have 255 Golden Keys and you add five Golden Keys to your account, you will still only see 255 Golden keys, until you spend 6, at which point you will see 254. So, essentially, the most you will ever see is 255, but more can be added.

So, in your case, currently you see 255 (or probably somewhere close to that) Golden Keys, but you have 49 more queued up behind those. So right now, if you spend 48 Golden Keys, you are going to see your Golden Key count drop to 207 until you spend the 49th, at which point you'll go back up to 255.

In case you're at less than 255 keys, these numbers should be close enough for you to get an idea of what you need to drop your key count to. In addition, I strongly suggest not adding any more Golden Keys until you have dropped the amount of keys in your queue to zero, as it is technically possible for you to add to your queue to the point that it is impossible for all of the keys to come through.

I hope I've explained that well enough, but if not, here is a shorter version: Once you have gone over the 255 limit, the number of Golden Keys you queued behind that must be 255 less the number you currently have unclaimed. It is because of this that we recommend users spend their Golden Keys; we want you all to have fun with them. We want you to have awesome weapons and cool mods and crazy grenades. We know that a lot of people are saving their Golden Keys for when they reach a certain level, but don't worry - the keys will keep coming, and we want you to have a blast while you reach whatever goal you've set for yourself.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions!

Regards,
Paul

I've got the same problem. I used 3 shift codes and didn't get the keys. The pop-up message that tells you how many keys are left when you login the first time it also gone.

I hadn't used any codes lately, but I just entered one and it worked fine for me. The game said that it was redeemed, and when I loaded a character, it gave me the new key total.

Maybe there was a problem with the Shift system when you tried to redeem those codes.

I've read that your total Gold keys is limited to around 250, so if you have around that many, maybe the game isn't adding more or something.

If you happened to set your profile.bin file to read-only, the game won't be able to add keys.

Well i have 240. If i redeem one for 5, it should work. But it didn't

Hmm. 240 keys is a lot. You may never actually use all of those. OTOH, I'm sure that you'd like to know that the system is still working for you, in case you do need more keys later, or want to redeem a Shift code for something else.

You're fairly close to the supposed limit. I'd use some of those keys (say 10 or 20), just to bring your total down some, then try another code (whenever a new one is released) and see what happens.

I've used around 30 keys to see if new added keys are now counted, but the counter won't go up. This is really annoying. =/

There is another problem. When you connect to shift server on Linux, you see that your number of keys is different on windows and on Linux. For example, I have more than 240 keys on Windows. And when I connect for the first time on Linux, he find only 128 keys on my account.

How can we find this difference for the same account?

Did the counter go down when you used those keys? If you restart the game now, load a character and go to the Golden chest, the number of keys it shows has gone down?

If so, I guess that proves that profile.bin is not read-only, and I don't know what else (other than having too many keys) could keep new keys from being added if you get the "Redeemed" message when you enter a Shift code.

128? It may just be coincidence, but if 128 is the max value that you see in the Linux version, it sounds like there's a problem with how they're storing, or interpreting, the value.

If you use a key in the Linux version, does the count go down to 127?

For the record, I have no idea how, or if, the Gold keys are really synced between different platforms, so I don't know how, or if, using keys in the game on one platform will affect the game on another platform.

So if you think it is because of some file on write-only... is there a fix for that?
I tested it today but still the same BS.

Did you copy your profile.bin from the Windows save to the Linux save? Windows and Linux do not share the cloud.

Mine was doing this too, use codes, but number did not go up, then one day I got a notice that I had <a number> keys, I used some, got down to 240, then when I did a code they went up. I think some times you can have more than 255 and it messes up the number displayed but I may be wrong on that, but mine is working fine now after using a bunch of keys. I was just burning them for someone in CO-OP and it started working, YAY :cwat:

The counter goes down when using keys, but doesn't go up when using a shift code. I never had a problem with this before and than bam! me and 2 friends have the same problem with the keys. Even the "you've got x keys" message that pops up when you log into your character is gone. =/

Which OS are you using?

Find the profile.bin file and check to see if it's set to read-only. In Windows, you'd right-click on the file and select Properties, and look for a check box for the read-only attribute. The specifics may depend on which version of Windows you're using.

Well, you only get that message when the number of keys has increased since the last time you loaded that character, so that kind of makes sense.

You said that the key counter goes down when you use keys, but if you exit the game completely, restart it and go to the Golden chest, is the number of keys still down, or does it go back up to where it was before you used those keys?
