Holy Crap... Chulainn is broken with Little Big Trouble!Gaige!
Being a fellow Irishman, (and half-Danish, I might add), it would come as no surprise I sided with the Zafords at the end of the Clan War sidequest. And once I got the quest reward, the Chulainn... hoo boy.

Let's just say that it's a complete and utter beast. Not only does it slag your opponents, it deals extra Electric damage to boot. It literally does ridiculous amounts of damage per second, has a crazy-high fire rate, and if you focus on Little Big Trouble as Gaige, and put points into Electrical Burn, you'll be doing twice that and even have BURN damage with Electric and Slag. Needless to say, that is flat-out insane, so it would be understandable if Gearbox made it with a drawback with that.

And it does, unfortunately: it's only real downside is that it make you slagged, making you more vulnerable to damage. So, it makes you deal craploads of damage, but at the cost of YOU getting craploads of damage. This could be a bit of a problem, all things considered, but considering the damage output, it's forgivable.

If you have a Little Big Trouble!Gaige, make sure to side with the Zafords: you'll get a hell of a gun, considering such a playstyle.

If you want a similar gun without the downside, try the Florentine. You need Tiny Tina DLC though.
I know the Florentine is superior, but c'mon! It's a freaking Irish gun, and, call me masochistic, but the Slag effect adds more challenge to the game, IMO.

Are you in UVHM? Because that's hard enough without taking triple damage all the time.
Yeah, I am. And judging from the slag damage my Gaige takes on a regular basis, I will say it isn't too bad.

Actually, the Slagged effect is ignorable come UVHM. You already need Health Gate to survive almost everything, so the Chulainn isn't making you take more damage. Health Gate is Health Gate, regardless if the actual value is 1 Million damage or 100 Million.

The Slagged effect it deadliest on Normal mode, and a bit dangerous on TVHM, but the only major issue it'll cause is your character will utter their Slagged lines frequently.

chulain and florentine aren't actually that good. they both do less damage to an enemie than a similar damaging shock smg on a slaged enemie

Really? I find that hard to believe, considering their card Damage is about normal, but the Slag effect is an extra 50% Damage. Normal and TVHM, Slag is too troublesome to go through the effort of using specific grenades or slag-and-swap for so little benefit. But Chulainn and Florentine have it built in, making Slag actually *useful* before UVHM.

Slag-and-Swap being annoying is why the release of UVHM made Slag last long and made swapping weapons faster. Slag being weak is why UVHM boosted it to triple damage instead of double, and why it gets a 50% damage bonus against slagged enemies.

Slag being too much effort for too little benefit is likely why they made the Florentine even exist. They made Slag, they wanted it used, but it was nigh useless on Normal and TVHM, so they made *another* gun that had Slag and Shock, but with a far lesser penalty so people would *use* it.

I get if you mean their penalties(slag self and double ammo use) make the benefits not as good, but the weapons themselves are amazingly powerful.

You forgot one other bonus of the Chulainn with Gaige, you get to hear her comments about being slagged a lot! Piss & Nachos go.

That video is interesting, and the guy makes some valid points. But I think it's important to note that he was only suggesting the Florentine might not be the best choice for a specific Maya build. Maya having innate Slagging abilities tied to her phase lock, this isn't really a big surprise. Also, he was running a Florentine against enemies who were generally unshielded and flesh based where shock damage has somewhat limited utility.

For other characters the Florentine probably has more utility, since they may not have the easy Slagging ability and also might benefit in other ways (like Gaige with her shock benefits) that differ from Maya.

In my own experience, I can say that the Florentine has been incredibly useful in the hands of Zero. Rabid Stalkers for example have their shield stripped and are relatively easy prey after a few shots from a Florentine. Whether or not the self-slagging effect of the Chulainn is important in UVHM is debatable, but it certainly can't be considered a good thing. Florentine avoids that pitfall entirely.
all i was trying to prove is that a chulain or florentine do less damage than a regular shock smg on slaged enemies, not if it's a weak gun or unuseable. so the 1st minute of that video proves that.

plus the mecros +shock skills are pathetic.
