Taking on Pyro Pete the invicible with Sal, I give up
Whoever said Pyro Pete is a pushover either deserves a firm slap on the face or really needs another activity besides playing just this game. Or possibly both.

So, my main gripe is that the difficulty of the invincible bosses just won't scale with the number of players, which makes them completely impossible if you want to play solo. And I want to play solo. And yes, I do understand that raid bosses are mainly designed for multiplayer.

So, playing with level 72 Salvador, armed with Juicy Flakker in the left hand and Nukem in the right, I was ready to confront Pete. I tried with Bee shield, I tried with empty launcher, I tried with full launcher, I tried shooting from various distances, I barely made a dent to his shield.

I tested the weapons combo against the Tinder Snowflake just to see how fast I could off him and I think the glitch still kind of works. I also got two Shams from the loot train, so it was not a complete waste of time.

I also tried DPUH+Grog Nozzle, with 10/5 moneyshot skill, no deal. Tried the same with two DPUH, same thing.

I tried the same weapons with putting everything I got to regeneration, had class mod to increase asbestos skill, had adaptive shield and resistance relic to further mitigate both the elemental and non-elemental damage. I guess it could be done with flawless running around and near endless bullets, but it would take all day.

Haven't tried Pimpernel, it's not an option because I have completed the whole Scarlett DLC and don't have any of those weapons anymore.

I tried jumping on the ledge and trapping him there. Got him there a couple of times, but could not get him to stay there.

I can't figure out how to do this. And it's a kind of a bummer.

Can't beat the tough bosses, can't get the seraph crystals. Can't get the seraph crystals (unless I spend the rest of my life in front of Tina's slot machines), can't get the really fancy gear. Can't get the gear, well... you know.

Any tips on how to do this? Is Pyro Pete one of the more feeble bosses or one of the tougher ones? And is it mainly the shield that makes this so difficult?

Or should I just try the damn multiplayer?

Never played Sal but i have always been told killing Pete with him is easy. I have killed him with Zero and Maya. Sal should even be easier.

To defeat Pyro Pete, you must first remove the helmet he wears. To remove the helmet quickly, you must use a combination of an Unkempt Harold and the Trespasser Sniper Rifle (You have to shoot Pyro Pete directly in the head).

Once you take off Pyro Pete's helmet, you can really do some serious damage to Pyro Pete using the weapon combinations you mentioned.

This Sniper Rifle (Trespasser) is obtained as a reward for completing the secondary mission "Animal Rights".

All of the "invincible" bosses have a gimmick or a way to cheese them , if you just roll up without knowing what you are doing you are going to die , which isn't too bad honestly but you have to pay attention to why you are dying and try to learn from it and figure out what to do differently the next time , this can suck if you don't know what is going on and die quickly.

So instead be smart , don't learn from your own mistakes , learn from someone else's mistakes , watch a video or read a guide on how to beat the boss and then you will agree that they are easy (comparatively speaking out of all the raid bosses pete is one of the easiest).

It was helpful, thank you. Not sure if I have completed that quest on this difficulty already, have to check when I have time.

It seems like I have dumped many "not so useful to me" quest rewards over time that, as it turns out, would have been quite helpful in some specific cases.

You are talking about Raid-bosses here - designed around needing a full party. And for those he is surprisingly easy when compared to Hyperius or Vermi.

Yes, I am aware of that. It's just that I have seen people wipe them out solo and I have failed to do the same.

It's great to know that it helped you :BL3Thumbsup:.

Don't worry, don't put pressure on yourself.
You'll be able to beat Pyro Pete, it's just a matter of practicing. Since you chose Salvador, it's going to be a little bit easier. Like I said, it's just a matter of practicing.

Those are people that have played the game for hundreds of hours and know their character, their gear and the bosses perfectly. It requires a lot of time - but it does feel good when you beat the dragons for the first time. But i would say to rather focus on the stuff that is FUN to you. If you like it you will play it and with time get the experience. When the bosses you previously had trouble become easy without you having to think too much about it then is the time to go for the harder challanges like raid-bosses.
But i have to stress that again: They are Raid-bosses. they are not meant to be soloed and trying to do so will be frustrating.

Well, I did some progress towards the raid bosses. I was farming the tinder snowflake again and then something happened that i was definitely not expecting: the loot train gave me the Sawbar, a pearlescent assault rifle. I have never ever gotten any pearlescent from anywhere. Ever. Normally I'm not too keen on assault rifles, but I had to look this up and what do you know, this guy's pellet split and the off-hand glitch also works. So I tried it a few times with the Snowflake and that guy just straight up melted from the longer distance.

So, obviously the next target to test it on was Terramorphous the Invincible, because I have an incendiary weapon, it has no shield and because why not. Tried it a few times, got half of his health gone, then two thirds and something like that, but I kept dying and thinking that is this still not enough. Until the winning combo was found: The Bee Shield, Sawbar. Nukem, Magic Missile and an aggression relic that increased the launcher damage. So after a few tries, I learned to be little bit more strategic and when the gunzerking was cooling down, I just ran like a coward. But in the end, it could be done.

My only gripe with the Sawbar is that the reload speed is nothing short of an abysmal: 8.0! I don't think I have ever waited a gun to reload for that long. So, I guess have to figure out something to increase the reload speed as much as I can and perhaps go see what Pete thinks of this thing combined with singularity slag grenades.

Or perhaps I just continue to farm the Terramorphous for a while, since the new legendary class mod it gave me gives a higher incendiary damage, to which it is vulnerable. We'll see.

Pyro Pete is resistant to incendiary damage, I don't think you'll do much damage to him if you use the Sawbar Assault Rifle, since the Sawbar deals incendiary damage.
In this video I face Pyro Pete using Pimpernel+World Burn combo (World Burn deals incendiary damage) and then I switch to Pimpernel+Nukem combo, and as you can see, the difference in damage is very noticeable.
At the time of recording this video, I was unable to test the Sawbar+Nukem combo as I do not own the Sawbar Assault Rifle.
I hope this video is helpful to you.
