Yeah, holding E isn't too hard. I've got 450+ hours in the game... I've managed to overcome the difficulty of pressing E and even managed to do it numerous times so far without any major complications or bodily injury.. ;^)
Its just that, as MR.hyde said, it breaks the flow of the game. Its also annoying and in rare instances if you're doing it during a chaotic fight you can actually end up swapping out a piece of your gear and not even notice it.
I'm unconcerned about the effects a modification like this would have on multiplayer. I only play single player. The only "loot ninjas" I have to worry about would be the rat thief mutant guys.
Some game functions are different between multiplayer and singleplayer, such as inventory pausing / not pausing, so i was hoping there might be a hidden option, mod ,etc to allow this functionality. Simply so I can get on with mindlessly shooting things and starring at colored drops without slowing the pace by having to hold E on chest ammo.
I agree. It makes sense for multiplayer, but its an annoyance in single player. It never used to bother me before, but having played the game so long its one of the only things that really interupts the action without adding anything fun. (Granted looking at gear and comparing it also interupts the action, but thats actually enjoyable to do.)
OK, the looting mechanics are part of game play, start asking for that to be dumbed down, when do people ask for the boss to drop dead when they walk in. It's all part of playing the game.
I have also gotten in a hurry and dropped a good gun picking up junk, I just repeat to get my good one back. In fact when I am full and playing slots, I do that to get the junk, turn, drop junk on floor, turn back get good gun/other item back.
If it ain't broken don't fix it.
*facepalm*

Dear OP, however, is considerate and did not request for gearbox to change the game or create an option just for his own personal preferences. I do hope you find a mod or something identical which fix your problem.
Money becomes next to useless as well, so you may as well get used to leaving everything on the ground eventually to not waste the time it takes to sort through it.
As a Gunzerker, I don't even need to pick up ammo as well.
well i level my char and money has value! and i would like the auto loot for that reason...
Regarding the flaws with holding 'E' to collect ammo in chests, and the swapping of guns by holding 'E', I have to agree they are a nuisance during my first playthrough. However, those are but minor problems with can be solved with time (by getting use to it).
Currently when ammo / money is on the ground from a dead enemy or a broken container your character will automatically pick then up. I don't think its unreasonable to want to be able to automatically grab ammo from chests in this same fashion.
I DO NOT think that guns and other equipable gear should be looted automatically and if that was included I would desperately want it to be disabled. Players inventories would fill up so fast with junk and you'd waste so much time sorting, dropping, and selling that the game wouldn't be fun anymore.
I'm under the impression that you misunderstood what I was asking in my original post. I'm not asking for an massive overhaul of the games looting mechanics and I don't want the game "dumbed down."
Just because something is "part of playing the game" doesn't mean its a "fun" part of playing the game. If the game didn't feature checkpoints and you always had to respawn at the start of an area and hoof it across an empty landscape back to where you were before... you know full well that people would be the forums begging for a way to start closer to where they died. I assume in this case you'd take the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" stance and demand to be force to run across all that empty landscape all the time?
Back on topic... All I want is for the ability, in single player, for ammo from chests to be automatically picked up just like ammo on the ground is. I'm not even asking for the company to put it in the game... I simply want a way to get it done for myself. I don't view it as an issue of the game itself. It's my issue... I find it annoying after playing all this time and think it would be less boring if it was the other way. I mean logically why would I NOT want the ammo? Its just me in my single player world so of course I want to take it.
