Helena Pierce: thoughts on injuries
In the echo logs, we find this exchange:

Helena Pierce: "My husband gave me a skag pearl ring. The pearl released hunger-inducing pheromones."
Handsome Jack: "Oh. You know what? I am so sorry. I - I just... Forgive me. Where's your husband now?"
Helena Pierce: "He's dead."

The wiki implies her injuries were the result of skags,
"Helena has been seriously injured some time in her past, which was revealed, in Borderlands 2, to be the fault of her, now dead, husband giving her a ring containing a skag pearl - the pearl released pheromones that induced hunger in skags."
http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Helena_Pierce

However, when I heard the audio logs, it only said "released hunger-inducing pheromones" and then explained that Mr. Pierce was dead.

Am I the only one who thought that maybe Helena was attacked by her husband, and that she killed him in the resulting fight? Maybe I'm just weird.

Could definitely be taken that way. But I just recently was told that I shouldn't
try to understand Borderlands lore - They seem to willy-nilly change stuff to their
liking. I'm not sure if Helena revealed something in Borderlands 1 about her injuries -
it's been to long - but I wouldn't be surprised if that story was totally different.

I still like your train of thought and have asked myself that same question, haha.

Nope. No explanation to her messed-up face or prosthetic limb in the first game. All we had was the assumption that it was the result of life on Pandora.

Or she was attacked by skags and her husband was killed trying to save her.

Should it be this fun to think about that stuff?
Geez, I need to get a life...

And yes, makes sense, too. What you just posted.

I realize that was the possibility, Melvin, it's just, funny enough, my FIRST thought was that maybe her HUSBAND got hungry. lol.

Kind of a flaw in that logic in that you'd need a lot more than pheromones to make a man disfigure and dismember his own wife like that. Plus, it would have turned Pierce feral as well.

You make a good point, Melvin! But, man, I was digging the pheromone-induced cannibalism storyline.

It would work if her husband was a skag. PLOT TWIST

I originally thought that the hunger-inducing pheromones made her attack her husband, eat him, and being unable to track down sufficent food to sate her pheromone induced madness, started clawing at herself to, well, try and eat herself o_o Would certainly explain Jack describing her as looking "like you headbutted a belt sander"

I like this one, too. She would have worn the necklace, with the pearls probably
touching her skin, making the stuff sort of seep into her system.
Then again, that's not how pheromones work?
Also, she would then have probably killed herself, not being able to control the urge.

Honestly, I always figured her husband and her did fight because of that.
Or Skags traveled from miles away to eat them. :)

Honestly, you could also take that entirely dialogue as reference to the Donner Party, because they did eat the ones that died.
Hunger is a powerful motivational tool, and something making you hungry is indeed possible, especially in the somewhat distant future. Where Yu-Gi-Oh is still played, and Zero is like the master champion.

I always just imagined that maybe they got divorced and he gave that to her so she'd be attacked by skags.

Ouch. Talk about payback, lol.
And blowback, for that matter.
