why does everybody hate cel shaded graphics?

I love it, it gives a comic book vibe to any game. I remember when Dishonored came out people were upset about the "crummy" textures when they didn't realize it was meant to look that way, kind of like an Impressionistic painting.

Its cool to see some artistic license instead of the usual "ultra" realistic textures of a Crysis 3 instead of a more stylistic game like Mirror's Edge.

I love Cel Shading, the games ive played that are cel shaded like Borderlands 2, The Wolf among us and The Walking Dead are some of my favourite games.

I'm not a fan of how the edges are bigger than the object itself when something is afar, but otherwise the postprocessing effect is pretty much OK imo, and a welcomed breath of fresh air from the "realistic" graphics about every other (3D) game has.

Trust me, the art style is one of the reasons that kept me playing this game for 900+ hours. I don't hate cel shading at all, I love it.

I like Cel Shading, ever since the first games on... PS2? PSOne? Not sure anymore,
but yeah, I like it, especially if goes with the ambience of a game.
For most Manga/Anime stuff this is wicked awesome, although I admit for Borderlands
it took a little getting used to... Still love it.

To be specific it's not really a cell shading, but regardless of that, I do like it more than the other shader options. It looks a lot better with downsampling though, because the outlines are still there, but they are a lot thinner.

I was actually sirius (lame jokes, ho!) because you are correct.
Terminology in gaming gets worse every day, no reason to water it down further.

It's just a texture/shader effect to mimic the 2D cel painting effect seen in Anime and other animation forms. So from a technical standpoint it is very different from traditional animation styles but it accomplishes the same thing. The only difference is its application to a wire frame illumination model to create the "flat look" that you would see in standard 2D animation.

Gearbox basically ripped off or was "inspired" by the animation style from Codehunters.

I like the comic book'ish look of BL2 quite a lot. Didn't know that "cel-shading" is the techinique used to acheive that look, but I like the results. But it's more then just that look... Pandora and the things in it are pretty cool, lots of great design work in there :)

apparently, enough people hate cel shading that someone decided to make a mod to change the graphics so they are not cel shaded any more.

i personally think the graphics are just fine but a couple of people have "suggested" to me that i might want that mod to remove the cel shading and i don't feel the need.

i guess what triggered this is that all the people I know personally or have conversed with about it before today, hate it.
