No. That has absolutely nothing to do with what's going on here. It's just pointless Mac-bashing.
The issue is that Gearbox/2K (Take Two Interactive) stopped paying Aspyr, the company who does the Mac ports. While Aspyr was being paid everything worked fine.
It's Gearbox/2K who decided to abandon their Mac customers. This has nothing to do with Apple.
Its not mac bashing, its the situation, I was trying not to get into it, but there are plenty of examples of Apple essentially stabbing their customers in the back gaming wise. (dropping 32bit support etc). Granted this mainly affects older games, but it still a huge amount of games that stopped working overnight.
The issue is Mac do not have the gaming user base to keep supporting games as much as windows/console users. While obviously its not just steam, but it gives us a good idea, OSX only account for 2.62% of gamers on steam and that figure is dropping.(which includes osx 10 through to 12)
At the end of the day, companies have to make money, it simply makes no financial sense to support mac's as much as other platforms.
FYI I think the M1 chip they have switched too are great, I really hope it helps them gain more of a foothold, the more competition the better but apple need to help their gaming customers out a bit, more support for dedicated gpu's etc. (the m1 while great simply cannot compete with anything other than low end gpu's)
You still lept right to blaming Apple, when this was a decision by Gearbox/2K.
I'll accept that Apple's choices may well have had an indirect impact on what Gearbox/2K decided to do, and I'll accept that Apple's recent choices about 32 bit architecture haven't been that great for gamers. But this is still directly a Gearbox/2K issue. They're at fault here.
Lots of smaller indie companies still manage to support the Mac (OS), without the deep pockets of a company like 2K.
And as for the M1 chip, The M1 machines can't run Windows the way the older Intel machines can due to a deal between Qualcomm and Microsoft.
As for the M!, I had not realised it was due to a deal, I assumed there was just issues due to the M1 being different architecture, thank you for that. I had a little read and apparently the deal is due to run out, so hopefully this allows windows 11 on m1 and allows osx users to game better :)
You should finally be aware that an unmentioned issue can sink the effectiveness of this solution ~ as server sites like Steam tend to "auto-update" unless you set updates for particular games to request your permission before updating, you'll find that disallowing all updates to BL2 is your smart move after installing the recommended backdate. If you're unsure of how to do this, click on the grayed~out Help button in the upper left hand corner of this screen then click on the Steam Support button in the help options and ask Steam. They'll email you with their easiest solution. Happy Gaming
