Actually your problem is the "harmless" kind here. Other peoples games crashed regularly just because Win10 didn't like their headset.
Soooo if you are running on Win10, that's all there is to it, and no, nobody has come up with a solution so far, except: disconnect your micro or whatever.
I'm running Win 8 actually but I would imagine it's more or less the same problem.
On my side, if I start Borderlands and then start a call, the game's sound will start going to the wrong device, but it works perfectly if I start the call and then the game. Random issues with random solutions.
btw... how do you see/hear that disco/connect thing? I mean, is it Windows telling you repeatedly that your micro connects? Or is it just ingame that you hear your sound going on and off again all the time?
I noticed something was going on when I was in a skype call and the person I was with said I was cutting in and out. I opened my recording devices to see that my microphone was flickering (for lack of a better word) where it would go away and come back every second or so. It's not just an in-game problem.
and yes I tested this without skype running and the same thing happened so it's not a mishap because of skype.
well you are certainly not the only one having the problem. Just earlier today I was in a game with two girls with "flickering" sound as you call it, and it happened quite a few times before with others... I always thought that was just some connection issue, but looks like it's more than that.
idk... if you havent done that yet, definitely try to disable push to talk as No suggested, or set the key binding to a key that you will never use... but beside that I have no idea either :/
I'd *guess* the whole thing is somewhere in a file called WillowEngine or WillowInput.ini, which manage the basic commands & functions between game, hardware and user, but tbh I have no idea what I'd have to look for in those files.
