Anyway, the humans we meet on pandora generally have either adapted to the brutal wildlife of pandora, or went insane.
Because it's a game ! - LoL
So its 3000 years from now.
Apparently humans have not only colonized one, but several galaxies (!). Still we have to travel an entire planet by walking or driving cars all the time.
It's not even clear if you are playing a living organism or everything is just a virtual cyberspace like The Matrix, as the whole "digistruct back when you die" thing doesn't make sense unless they'd make a backup of you every second. And if Hyperion (who runs the New-U machines) would constantly make backups of you, Jack would know where you are all the time and could just send an army to defeat you at any point of the game. Not to mention that Roland could have simply digistructed back, just like everyone else who dies in the game.
You could analyze most of the background and story in the game like this, but yeah it's just a fun game.
Finally someone who puts the problem of BL2 in a nutshell.
This is also the only logical inconsistence I could find throughout the entire game. It's really a pity, because the rest really makes sense. Especially rocket launchers & ammo popping out of toilet seats.
Here's a list which may or not be complete, since you can never trust that wiki: http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Planets
Thing is, the Borderlands universe clearly develops in a point where humans have colonized multiple planets in different solar systems -and likely different galaxies-. I don't know why this confuses the OP.
The life on Pandora quickly became brutal and the human colonies or bases were unable to survive. Many of the adventurers who came to Pandora or the former workers and such of the corporations became distant, primal, and some just went insane.
Therefore, we have bandits. Those who didn't go nuts created home bases like Old Haven, New Haven, Sanctuary, and more. What was once a treasure filled planet quickly became a savage land of death and brutality.
But, nothing stops Vault Hunters. That's where we come in.
