Stuck on LAN and Fatal Error
So, I have a number of issues when running this game. I haven't played it in about a year, but I just bought it for my girlfriend so we can play together. When I run mine though, I have a number of issues.

First, it won't let me change my network connection in th title menu to Online Friends, or any other setting for that matter. It will only stay on LAN. If I select Online Friends, a blank box with an "OK" option comes up, and I click "OK" and then it just stays on LAN.

We are on the same network though, so I figured we might as well jsut play LAN anyway. Except that when I join her LAN game, as soon as the world loads up, the game crashes with a fatal error and gives me a dump. Here's a screenshot.

I'm running an MSi computer with Windows 8.1 and a GeForce 840M graphics card with 8GB RAM and an i5 2.9 GHz processor. I've never had this issue before.

I have tried verifying local files and deleting the game entirely and reinstalling it, neither worked.

The issue happens in single player mode as well. Aslo I noticed that if I go to "Downloadable Content" it says that I'm not signed in and that I need to connect to the Steam servers. I'm not in offline mode, so I don't know why it's doing this.

Okay, so, if I verify the integrity of the game cache, it says that there is one file that couldn't be verified and needs to downloaded... But that doesn't fix it. I can literally run the verification again right afterward and it'll still say there's a file it couldn't verify.

Okay, so... Somehow it has something to do with my controller? If I start the game with my XBox gamepad unplugged, everything suddenly works just fine. But not with the controller plugged in. What the ♥♥♥♥?

Hi guy! Today I also still crash in loading screen when I joining lan game, it's fine in single mode. But I have not use XBOX gamepad. I also have one file that couldn't be verified and needs to downloaded when I check file complete. Is there any solutions or advise. Thanks!

I forgot to follow up on this. I managed to fix the problem by using a PS3 controller using SCP DS3 drivers instead. It only works in a certain USB port; in the other USB ports the issue persists. If I use my XBox gamepad in the same port instead, I still have the problem. I wish I had more information than that so I could know why or how to fix it better.

Just fixed this one:

1) Unplug controller
2) Open Borderlands 2 and confirm you can connect to online matchmaking
3) Re-plug controller
4) Confirm controller works
5) Done

No idea why this happened. I'm using a Logitech Wireless Gamepad F710, by the way.

The one file that never verifies is a bug that is mentioned somewhere else here. I ran into that one when I corrupted my save file.

When I tried that before, it would never recognize my Microsoft XBox controller (which works fine for every other game I play). Weird. Hope your solution works for others as well!

Necrobump for helpfulness: I encountered this issue, and (somehow) this was the solution.

Even better, it continued to work after I restarted the game with the controller plugged in, so once you get it unstuck it stays that way :steamhappy:

2019 and still not fixed :/ Played with my friend. We played the whole story and now Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep and killed the boss. Now we want to do the side quests. But she can't invite cause its set on Lan/offline and she can't change it cause its blank. Also Axton lvl 1 is picked by default. Starting without controller works but can't bring controller online while ingame. Starting the game offline causes a crash.

So... only fix seems to restart windows. That worked for her

Same here, so many years and no patch for that.

Yup, after doing that, fixed.

i don't know if this helps.

but i had this problem, and i found out that if i switch the game to "fullscreen windowed" instead of "fullscreen" it fixes this for me permanently.

before i switch only either restarting my pc, or not using a controller. helped.

so try changing to fullscreen windowed it may help.
