Is it only possible to run-and-gun with hyperion, explosives, and shotguns?
Looking for some clarification here, specifically with regard to a hip-fire focused run-and-gun playstyle. I'm moving over to this game again after having a blast playing borderlands 1 and a bit shocked at how poor my characters accuracy seems to be with just about everything.

If I only walk and leave a long delay between shots, the accuracy is fine but if I want to sprint and jump around enemies or fire in longer bursts, the hip fire accuracy (even for guns with 95+% accuracy) rapidly becomes too poor to hit anything, usually after only a couple shots. It starts to feel like I have to glue my feet to the floor to accurately hip fire at anything further than point blank range.

In borderlands 1, for weapons even as low as ~80% accuracy the maximum accuracy spread while sustained firing was reasonably tight and you could even jump after sprinting to maintain speed and recover accuracy. You could comfortably and accurately run-and gun around enemies at medium range. In this game neither are the case and it seems to me that without the effects of hyperion guns or simply ignoring accuracy with a weapon that doesn't need it (like shotguns), getting by with hip-fire is impossible.

Can someone with more experience give me some insight? Are there skills or equipment that address this issue? I've been using Axton primarily and in the middle of a tvhm playthrough but haven't seen anything that looks like a solution. In particular, Im hoping for something that would tighten that maximum accuracy spread. The accuracy stat itself doesn't seem to do anything, and recoil reduction (courtesy of the steady perk) only seems to lightly affect the reticle spread for each shot, allowing maybe 1 more shot before hip fire becomes unsustainable on most guns, but nothing seems to help for sustained fire.

Is this just a different type of gunplay to bl1 that requires ADS or hyperion?

as far as i'm concerned, this isn't a " run & gun " game.
just my opinion.

That may be true, I'm trying to find out. If that is the case, though, it would be a pretty significant change from borderlands 1.

I appreciate the input. I'm hoping that it is possible to run and gun but at least I can consider this case closed if most people share your sentiment.

using strategy, tactics, and cover are much more effective.
however, if you really want to run & gun, try Salvador.

If you like run and gun you can use Sal , Gaige and gun Krieg .

I don't think the playstyle you want can be achieved easily in this game. I'd say shotguns are your best bet. I have a shotty Legendary Pointman Axton and it's super fun and effective. Throw the turrets for distraction and run in there. Pointman will make you invincible (mostly...). Bonus points if you're using the Heartbreaker, since it has lifesteal.

The Heartbreaker is also a Hyperion shotgun, which is the closest thing to a proper assault rifle in this game honestly, They are even greater if you've skilled Metal Storm!

Otherwise, you could try to go Rocket Launcher focused, I guess. Good for running in and exploding everything to bits. You would need gear though to sort out the ammo, namely a low level Logan's gun and an Absorb shield with decent %. No need to farm a Sham for ages, a 33% blue or purple Vladof works just fine to get your ammo back, but of course you can if you want.

Obviously, there is the famous Sham+Norfleet combo but that is super rare if you are trying to get the gear legit (or you could save edit one in if you don't want to spend your life farming pixels). But even that is not necessary. A good launcher or Etech launcher drop and decent absorb shield, or any % Sham if one drops from Bunker, should do the trick for regular mobbing.

I appreciate the suggestions guys, I'll probably end up sticking to shotguns for the most part to try to sort of simulate borderlands 1 lol. I'm sure Ill get used to the combat pretty soon, its just surprising to me how different it is. Or rather, how different the hipfire nerf makes it feel, I guess.

I think Zer0 would be very suitable for a run and gun way of playing. It will not be the case early on from level 5-25 as you can resort to using Sniper Rifles, Shotguns, and Pistols. By 25+ you will notice the possibilities of incorporating an element of melee to keep the consistency with target eliminations.

I'm not really much of an effective run-and-gun player myself bc of visual impairment in terms of lighting and color which means it takes me about 3-5 seconds to spot a target but when the lighting is very adequate, it's fun to go into decepti0n and then take out one target, shotgun another, and another, snipe another from mid-range. Goal is to aim for their weakspots and most of everything in BL2 can be dealt with headshots while other adversaries have different weakspots.

Krieg is fun too for a run-and-gun playstyle when combining Rampage and Hellborn skill trees. As individual skills, I find myself taking cover as not everything will go down in an instant but Hellborn skills can amp up the elemental damage statuses while taking damage as a cost. Gaige is a bit more technical in my opinion and run-and-gun with Gaige is not advisable in my opinion. If you're a 90% accurate pointman then go ahead but zer0 in my opinion does it nicely. Only problem is that he will go down quite easily if you're not quick enough or out in the open.

===========================================================

Jakobs weapons are fun, can deliver too but tend to have recoil. WIth Axton, you'd want to prioritize non-elemental weapons in TVHM. You will have to include something to drain down shields as adversaries like Scavengers and Super Badas*es will prove to be a bit more bullet-sponges. You'll have to depend more on the turret as it will act as ordinance to flank anything in front of it. There is a way to give AXton a ridiculous movement speed boost but haven't looked into it myself as much nor do I see it being advantaegous in a firefight other than to simply bypass an area and be closer to the objective marker.

Apart from using Jakobs, non-elemental Hyperion guns, you'd want to spend more time with Torgue guns as they're more potent with points added to the right skills. As for survivability, adding points to health-regeneration, shield regeneration, and temporary invincibility (Grit) will allow you to health-gate should things start to feel complicated albeit sticking with explosive guns.

As for improving accuracy. I am not able to provide much as I've never added skill points to accuracy. There are specific weapons in BL2 that have lesser recoil but cannot think of any at the top of my head other than the KerBlaster and any weapons with an Extender grip. I bieleve it 's Hyperion, correct me if I am wrong otherwise.
