Badass Ranks - Yea or Nay?
Hi. My Badass Rank is 35k-40k (I think about 38k atm) and I have about a 10-13% buff on all relevant stats. My question is, at what point do some of you decide that the buffs provided are a little too significant and turn off BA rank bonuses? I've seen some youtube videos of people playing and a lot of them seem to have BA ranks disabled, so is it more or less considered "unclean" to have them enabled?

I'm sort of a purist; I don't use the Claptrap Stash, any exploits, etc. For my own satisfaction, I keep them on for now as their bonuses are still fairly marginal but eventually I imagine it'll become too significant a boost for me to feel legitimate using them. I guess the answer to my question is very subjective, so I'll put it another way.

How many of you play with BA enabled and how many disabled? For whatever you chose, why? I know it all comes down to personal preference, I guess I'm just someone who needs to justify some of my gameplay choices in order to feel pure and bathed in the light of Hyperion's benevolent mercy.

Thank you in advance.

Usually people in videos only turn them off to show their build in use without the ranks on, or they cheated and the ranks are extremely high.

I think I have around 15% across them all. You work for them so why not use them. For me 15% isn't really much and that is after 1k hours of playing, so yea there no way I'm not using it lol.

I personally, have them enabled on my lvl 20 Zer0 (yeah I'm a bit of a newb, no full complete runs yet but over 100 hours in the game lol) but I disabled them today when making a new character to play with a friend. I personally think, maybe it would be more fun to start off a playthrough without them and THEN get them on. I haven't really noticed a difference yet, though.

i have them enabled. you work hard for them and you can customize your rank by what you spend the badass tokens on. some people will use to boost health more ...others for better gun damage...etc.

Even as a "purist" as you call yourself, I don't see any problem with keeping a legit 40k BAR running.

Personally I always play disabled (~350k BAR), but that's for 2 different reasons:

1. there is a bug with elemental damage, giving you badassranks for slaging enemies over and over again. Also spams your backpack with Maliwan Elegance skins, yay. Constantly happens to my main char.
It started when I was at 120k legit, and I guess around 50% from my 350k BAR are only because of that bug. And that's a problem for me, because purist of sorts too :)

2. I find the game too easy by now. Disabling 350k BAR makes it at least a tick harder.

I only enable the BAR if I help out friends with leveling or speedrunning stuff.

So.. that being said, no, it's not considered "unclean" to have BAR enabled as long as its legit. For me (and I dare say I speak for the majority of people here), the emphasis is on LEGIT in that sentence. I don't see how there would be some "point at which the BAR gets a little too significant", as long as you got it through legit means.

For example a guy I used to play with has over 6000h in the game and 750k BAR - I don't see why anyone should have a problem with that BAR being enabled. After all you play in a team, not competitive.

but if some random guy just modded his BAR from 10k to 500k, that does bother me, although it does not make that much of a difference.

And on a different note, that stuff you said about youtube videos: ofc if you demonstrate a build you disable the BAR, since you wanna have a even basis for comparison.

You may consider disabling BAR if you play melee character, and "accidentally" (on other character) dumped some points into shield recharge delay. It makes all roid shields except for Love Thumper bothersome to manage. That is just one example - there are some combos of character/build/playstyle which can be thwarted by the same BAR, that boost other combo. Healthgating can be made difficult by additional Maximum Health, and so on.
Otherwise, I don't think it matters - except if you want to. Just don't call it "purism" - call it "sporting". Also, enabling/disabling them is just a press of a button - if you suddenly feel that you need them, you can enable them fast.
P.S. I always assumed that people on Youtube disabled BAR, because they were experienced players with high BAR, and wanted to show that for chosen tactic/gear/build it doesn't matter. When you do something like soloing raidboss, 10% can be a difference between success and failure, I suppose.
I think that whilst the changes to stats may appear insignificant, in gameplay, they are an absolute godsend when you have a lot of them.

However, you can't twiddle around with you badass rank rewards, which is annoying, as some builds require some stats that other builds just will not work with

I have nowdays a badass rank of close to 38,000 which is low for my hours.
Glitches did NOT effect me due to the reason I had backup save data.
Reloading a recent backup before the glitch started = stops it !
Playing soley as commando, heck yes I need those few badass ranks
and see absolutely no reason not use it.
For players with tons of undeserved ranks thru glitches and edits NO they
should not use thiers, and should consider building a brand new character
starting from ZERO badass rank, backup your data after each session
and keep your character legit.
Makes the game, and completing ones objectives a whole lot more satisfying I would assume.
