Borderlands 2 LAN Co-Op "Incompatible version" error
Hi,

I got a steam copy of Borderlands 2 on my account. Now i try to play Borderlands 2 in LAN in coop game with my friend and got some problems.

I installed steam with Borderlands 2 on both PCs. On both PCs i started stream in offline-mode and started the game. In-game i switched to LAN-mode (network options). One PC is starting a savegame (host) and the other one should join - now here comes the trouble.

1.) the client/quest (the one who should join) dont find any games on the network.

2.) when i start the game on the client/guest with "borderlands2.exe 192.168.0.12" (IP-adress of the host) then i get the error
"the match you are trying to join is running an incompatible version of the game. Please try to upgrading your game version".

I dont know what the difference between those two is. Both are installed through steam with newest patch (1.8.4.), no error on verifiying the local data.

Any suggestions? Thank you!

Pretty sure that if steam is in offline mode you're stuck in single-player. If you're trying to avoid messages and such just use the offline button on your friend's list after connecting to the game.

I had this same problem. Was not getting local LAN games to appear. Spent hours trouble-shooting it, including trying the command-line option. That just gave me the incompatible version message.

Want to know what the problem actually is? Borderlands 2 doesn't know which network adapter to use. "But wait! That doesn't make any sense with the kind of error messages BL2 is giving me..." Yup. But I'm not crazy. I found this solution after hours of scouring the internet and trying different solutions, and it worked for me.

Go to your Network Connections and disable all connections except the one you're using to network with your other PC. Now load Borderlands 2 and connect successfully. Merry Christmas.

@In Love With A Starship Trooper

I really got you to say, i fell in love With A Starship Trooper now. :steamhappy: Disabeling unnecessary network-adapters did the trick. Thank you so much for helping me out!!!

First i realized that using Tunngle also works! Then i read your comment. It has to do something with the network-adapter priority. In my case the bad-guy were the installed VMware Workstation adapaters.

I cannot believe that its working now, i struggle with that problem since three days.:steamfacepalm:

Happy new year!
