And you can go before again and again and again and find exactly the same things. And the exact same "solutions" that do not work at all on the long term, you know why, because it's lotery, that all. And i'm sure because i've tried almost every "solutions" and tricks and everythings else and still experience crashs. Voilà
Lol, it is unrelated. does not help and it is definitely not "all you can do". This is a known issue on the community for years now.
For OP, "Out of memory" is the cause of a memory leak that plagues the Borderlands series. In specfic, refering to BD2, it is mostly caused because the UHD texture pack (the high res texture pack you downloaded as "free" on the store). For the majority of players this is the cause for those crashes.
Uninstall the UHD textures. Unfortunately it's an issue on high end PCs. I myself have played the game with 4 gpu cards (8870m back then, some 2gb nvidia card I dont even remember, a 1050ti 4gb and now 7700XT 12gb and only crashed once with the latter on a coop session because I do have the textures with the 7700XT on Fight for Sanctuary DLC final boss).
Also unrelated but good to know as it can solve overall performance and fix issues: Make sure you cap your fps: 120 is the max ingame I believe, but you can cap it to anything you like in your designated GPU panel; be aware this might cause instability as BD2 was a console port and was intended at first for 30 fps gameplay (this is further exploited in some runs where speedrunners cap their fps to 30 in some segments to have doors open instantly, as the first main gate on Sanctuary). If I were you, I would cap it to 120 to avoid further husstle.
On game settings, turn off or "low" the nvidia PhysX. It was poorly added back then and destroys your game. It is popular belief that the game cannot allocate 2-3 gb vram (I dont remember very well, sorry OP) and thus it crashes; specially on +2000 series up ahead. Sounds like the typical memory leak devs know but dont bother to fix (like the one in BD1 remaster or BD3 itself).
TLDR: Try turning off or lowering to a minimum PhysX (off if it is an option, as I recall). If the crashes still persist, uninstall the high quality texture pack, and that would do it. If not, open the nvidia control panel, go to BD2 settings and disable threaded optimization and set "Virtual reality Pre-rendered frames" to "use 3D application settings" or something like that. If still somehow crashes, try lowering the res as 4K is very unstable here and it can def cause crashes if the high quality texture pack is still installed.
UPDATE: When you uncheck the UHD texture pack make sure you restart Steam. This is very important!
this is what is EXACTLY explain in the few guides here and there on the thread i point. Right? Yes!
While DXVK can improve performance, it is obviously not the main issue here. The issue seems to be the memory leak that happens when the UHD pack is installed (and running 4K, I can imagine, I guess). You can run the game with DXVK and UHD pack and still crash. So, as I said, I dont know if DXVK can fix it. I doubt it, but he can try it at last.

Btw, this is also an issue on other games that can use DXVK, like GTA IV and so on. You still can crash, so I dont know. But hell, he loses nothing by trying I suppose.
Let OP try it and see what he says. You are here to help people or to gibber around? Cmon, man.
This is EXACTLY what i'm saying with VOODOO solutions! Right! Can be this very clear. Yes, even with all the solutions in the world you will still have crashes! That what i said on my first post. Pffff And you can disable the texture pack and still have crashes, and many things that do not work at all. I've already tried this, and experience crashes, it's maybe time to learn to read.
So your first post is basically saying what everybody else knows;
That the game engine was obviously not tested nor stable with 11+ year hardware & software on the future (since Gearbox clearly lacked a Delorean and a crazy doctor) and can indeed cause problems and thus it might not work. You must be a genius. Thanks for the support you grant here, Captain obvious!
Welcome to the world man. Not everything works for everyone. You didnt even state your game did crash until now you edited the post; OP gave specs and stated his problem, and then, we could try to help him (and so, another user and me wrote).
"Voodoo solutions" tends to be worse than you might think if you dont detail relevant information regarding your crashes (which you didnt even state; we dont know if it was another "out of memory" scenario, if it crashes alone, if it freezes, if it is an DLL error, if you have any sort of stuttering... we dont even know your specs, we dont know your settings, we dont know how your control panel gpu is set on, we dont know if you have any mods installed, if you have any kind of modded item, if it is a dx problem, your win version and so it goes. We literally dont know nothing about your issues since you have literally stated zero. But you are so entitled its unironically funny to me.
But I guess people here must be expected to be magicians to somehow know what happens to Danton Lulu game. Talking about learning how to read. How ironic.
Thanks very much for your patient and very well written answer, I did not expect such a detailed explanation.
@Danton, sorry I didn't search before I posted but calm down buddy, we're all just gamers here wanting to help each other - if that doesn't describe you then perhaps stay away from forums. With that said, thanks also for your input.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3287916955 check the section in the guide for memory crashes if you still have problems.
I also recommend DXVK to just improve your FPS in general even if you don't need it to fix crashes , it's just a better system than direct X 11 / 12 for this game in particular but DXVK is also good with other older games on modern hardware.
Thanks for your help and feedback. I will check it out if I have any further issues. I followed Rico's advice above uninstalled the UHD texture pack, set Physx to 'low' lowered my resolution a bit and now its as smooth as butter.
Thanks again everyone, for me this issue is solved. Cheers.
Glad it works for you man, have fun!!! (and maybe now that is stable, try pumping the resolution up)
