this was my response in my above post NOT seeing Brick's name being mentioned for the upcoming movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEu1dFLwf3E
<sarcasm>
But hey ... Krieg! ... because you know ... he was so central to the first Borderlands game ...
</sarcasm>
Clearly, the movie isn't really aimed at actual fans of the game (and/or franchise).
Besides rather than cast someone like Dave Bautista as Brick or Pedro Pascal as Mordecai , they would pick Danny DeVito as Brick and Tommy Wiseau as Mordecai.
not gonna lie, casting Danny DeVito as Brick would be hilarious as hell
(Although ... I'd be more likely to go with Marcus Lloyd than Oliver Tull, and I'd go with Jason Liebrecht rather than Julio Cedillo. I played BL2 first, so I'm just more used to the sound of their voices.
But Colleen Clinkenbeard and Marcus Mauldin? Definitely).
But then ... I'd have actually tried to do a pastiche of CodeHunters and Road Warrior (and maybe some Firefly thrown in), and you know ... actually try to keep to the basic plot of the first game. Less meandering side quests obviously, but still ... 4 down on their luck mercenaries, looking for a big score and an alien vault.
Bring in John Favreau to direct it, he'd do a good job.
But that's not what the Embracer Group thought would fly, so I guess we'll see (or not, it's definitely not on my short list).
I´ve said so on other threads and to friends and nobody is gonna convince me otherwise: Krieg is in this movie because he looks like the guy in the game posters, period.
We ain´t getting his dual minds monologues (or if we do, it will be just the smart one narrating the movie), he´s just the silent killing machine ala Jason Vorhees that does most of the action scenes while Kevin hart and Cate Blanchet speew boomer jokes.
Mordecai, Brick and Handsome Jack will appear as cameos on a post-credit scene, if they ever do. That, or Brick and Mordecai won´t while Handsome Hack is actually in the movie, see in the trailer that guy with a beard and a long coat duster? I think that may be him, and the movie will end with Lilith punching his face and the post-credit scenes will be the Pre-Sequel post-credit scene where he wears the mask and finally gets the Handsome Jack nickname.
So yeah, pretty standard poorly though out fan service.
Can we just not?
He´s already a villain in DC, a bounty hunter in Star Wars, now Reed Richards in Marvel, Last of Us...
Plus, we are complaining Lilith is badly cast cause she´s 50, why would be different with Mordecai? We are in this mess because they choose actor´s names over characterization, let´s not make the same mistake this hollywood producers make every single time.
Probably not.
My understanding is
The movie is not intended to be cannon, and sequels would have new people and new stories.
FIrst movie is just a starting point, in an alt reality, post BL3 kind of timewise (but not necessarily eventwise).
And?
I mean ... seriously, who cares? If Lionsgate made a movie you don't like then ... don't watch it. Your personal interpretation of their version of an entirely different movie (than Borderlands) really has nothing to do with the Borderlands movie, or with Lionsgate's track record.
They've made lots of movies, some of them you may have even liked.
Being personally affronted by (your personal interpretation) of a production choice they made is weird. Pinocchio only has the power over you that you give it.
