you can turn shift crossplay off in-game, ive found ive had to because sometimes having it on even when playing solo sometimes kicks me to the main menu with disconnection issues
SO, You need to run the service from the game makers. This is why I never buy from a 2nd party!
Shift is just an allowance for crossplay for games that have that crap"IE" Play with people on xbox -praystation ......... PASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dude literally in the front page you can find the warning
"Requires 3rd-Party Account: SHiFT (Supports Linking to Steam Account)"
1) redeem golden key codes
2) be able to play with friends that bought the game elsewhere besides steam
3) i think you can play cross platform
Nothing needs installed etc
Yes, even when crossplay is disabled you must depend on shift to function in order to play online.. you may even get kicked out back to the lobby when you lose internet connection or shift acts up.
I remember the good times when you could play the game and all it'd do is display a notification that you lost internet connection, set your lobby privacy to offline and allow you to play on..
so what is this SHIFT thing anyways? its a thing running in the background? an .exe ?? a launcher?? a server? i thought it was an account only that.
can i play this offline just single player stuff??
ohh and can you mod the game?
it just gave a message about shift loosing connection, but i kept playing fine
It did that last night actually, when the router rebooted
Shift is just an account
The game uses the account to give you ingame rewards sometimes
Or let you redeem shift codes to things, in game.
And facilitates finding friends.
No launcher, no nothing running in background etc.
You can play single player
The game sees no difference between single player and multiplayer, literally the only difference is, you're solo.
You still get shift rewards solo
You can also play solo, invite a friend to come help with something, then have them leave and return to playing solo, with out having left the game.
It also lets you find and play with that weird friend who only plays games on his playstation/xbox as it supports crossplay
You can also start a game, and leave it open public, and then just go about playing solo
and random people will pop in, which is sometimes fun.
You can also pick to be offline gamewise
You can still claim shift rewards, keys player skins etc.
Think of shift as your universal borderlands social account, except it does not really do much beyond what i said.
I mean there is a shift website where i think you can log in and do more social stuff, but i never look at it.
I use it to play with a friend sometimes, and to redeem codes for golden keys
(you can find the codes in the guides here for any of the borderlands games)
No no social media type crap, no posting etc
it literally just lets you claim shift codes, that will be delivered in game next time the game logs in
SHiFT is nothing that runs in the background, its a server/service now that allows you to play online with other players, offline mode is 100% fine and fully works.
Before 2019 and Lilith DLC, all you needed was just Steam and SHiFT was optional, but it was made mandatory after Epic Games crossplay integration.
Would've been nice if you could just fully use Steam servers instead when disabling Crossplay but Gearbox doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥.
It adds nothing to the game, it does not host the game-downloads, it does not host the maps - nothing like that - but when it is down you can not play online and even if it "works" it can randomly kick you out of multiplayer (or out of singleplayer when playing BL3).
It is just useless crap.
The above literally never ever happens to me, and my internet goes down.
Other then you cant start a new multiplayer game, because there would be no matchmaker to find people.
Never ever had it throw me out of a multiplayer game that was already going (except when my internet dies obviously)
And i have never had it throw me out of my own game ever
And you can play fine if it is down, aside from not finding multiplayer games
hell you can disconnect your internet and play all day, it doesnt care.
Ok good. I was worried I was gonna have to put in spyware into my computer to play the damn game.
Gosh, I hate 3rd party account requirements.
