There are a few good content mods.
exodus mod for single player.
reborn,ucp,2.5 and one I did not try yet but looks alright
ffylands.
But there are mods that change the existing characters , not completely but more of a rebalance, changing the order of the skill trees as well as the stats to make more builds viable.
Exodus SDK is good for this, it also adds hundreds of new weapons and items which in my playthrus gave me a lot of new things to try out , some are BL TPS guns and some are totally new with new unique effects , there are also mods that bring laser weapons to BL2 (well as close as can be made).
There is a mod that randomizes all skills between all characters , so you could be playing Maya , but have some of Kriegs pyro skills , Gaiges shock skills , Axtons grenade bonuses etc , just a totally randomized skill tree that might be jank or overpowered depending on your luck.
I always recommend python SDK mods over BLCM because python SDK are easier to install and the most recent but if there is a specific BLCM mod you want to try you can still use them with SDK mods just load the usual way first.
Or if you are playing Exodus SDK it has a specific "z_ModExtension_" folder inside the exodus folder where you can just drop any BLCM mods and they will work as long as they aren't conflicting. (simple mods like loot beams will work, overhaul mods like community rebalance would not work since Exodus already does that)
https://bl-sdk.github.io/ follow written instructions of watch the video tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57WxvASCX70
It's just a few steps but follow whichever guide works best for you.
Find the mods themselves here https://bl-sdk.github.io/mods/ Unzip into the mod folder and turn them on in game on the mod menu.
Make sure when download the mod you look at the Requirements section , it will tell you if the mod requires any other files, most don't and won't even list the requirements but if they do it's the same step, just download and unzip in the mod folder.
There are also SDK mods for TPS itself if you want to mod it too ( just don't get them confused) , Exodus SDK is also on TPS now.
